Dormant Like A Volcano

Evie sleeps, but in a little while, she'll open her eyes, hop out of bed, and begin a full day of nonstop chatter and activity. She'll play with things that aren't hers, spill her milk, move all the toys to other places, pile pillows in tiny corners, leave a trail of open books, misplace one shoe, have a tea party in the closet, hug her brother against his will, eat none of her food, ask for snacks, and unfold the laundry in the basket. She'll also gaze deeply into my eyes, proclaim her undying love, and kiss me soundly. And even though she wears me out, this girl of mine, I love her, too, more than anything.
