Illumination in the Crypt

Winchester Cathedral's Festival of Flowers, recreating the Winchester Bible's illuminations, is as much a celebration of florists' skills and the artistry of scriveners and scribes centuries ago.

The display around Anthony Gormley's statue in the crypt is breathtaking.

Soooo beautiful--fantastic

@quietpurplehaze no you wouldn't, white balance all wrong!! Flowers were white, candles yellow and quite dark and crowded ( despite only 10 people at a time!)

It was so emotional watching the red and purple petals falling from the nave ceiling to dramatic music. I welled up!
@lanikyea thank you Lani.

I try not to do emotional so my decison not to go was probably right!

Wow...amazing scene..very dramatic in b&w

Cool, very cool. How about a long exposure to eliminate the crowds?

@joysabin will Google that suggestion, as doesn't make sense to me. There was an iron gate between us and display so no people to obstruct view
@amyk it's pretty bad in colour!!
@4rky many thanks, first time I've seen the statue
@wendyfrost this doesn't convey how truly stunning it was
@fbailey it made me gasp!
@quietpurplehaze emotional in a Remembrance Sunday sort of way when poppies fall. Fleeting but strong.
