I was sat quietly cleaning my teeth whan I glanced up to see a truly enormous wasp on the window.
I identified it as a hornet, an insect to avoid. Not I!! Fetched my little point and click that's handy in my bag in the bedroom, focussed on the hornet and followed it around the window to get a shot of it for about 5 minutes.
It gently climbed onto a copy of Private Eye and reluctantly flew out of the window.
@davemockford it was surprisingly docile Dave! very quiet. I thought they buzzed loudly. I didn't feel in danger at all, but then behind a camera I feel invincible to all sorts of dangers!!
@joysabin he was fine @wendyfrost I was a couple of feet away @amyk I'm a bit slow sometimes @lanikyea thank you @salza oh yes didn't want it hanging around @365anne it was very calm @onewing language!!! Lol! I'd heard they hurt_a lot @farmreporter zoom on point and click pretty good @jacqbb see Bab' reply @ludwigsdiana it was big enough, but new windows to protect
Lovely shot :)
They do get a bad press, both wasps and hornets, but I find hornets are usually pretty docile and easy to deal with. Wasps too if you don't flail! They're all just misunderstood. I'm glad you released it outdoors :)
