The Printer's Devil

This little carved red devil can be found outside what used to be a print shop. It is a reference to the printer's apprentice who was responsible for carrying hot metal type. It was thought a demon haunted every print shop performing mischief such as inverting type or misspelling words. Over time the source of these errors was transferred to the printer's assistant who was nicknamed 'the printer's devil'.
Interesting folklore ! he does look very demonic - makes on want to shy away from the shop !
