The squeaky door "song" of the common grackle is one of the sounds of spring. I could hear the red-winged blackbirds today too, but I couldn't spot them. Here is a link to the grackle's "song." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc7pUIfUKEo
We have been invaded this pass week or so by grackles, starlings and I’ve seen a few red wing blackbirds! Yes spring is on its way. High winds today, thunderstorms and possible tornadoes tonight!
Interesting to hear how they sound. I think we have them here but not certain... What we do have coming to our feeder right now are multiple red wing blackbirds...one of my favorites. A sure sign of Spring when they show up but usually only see them along the roadside on the many cattails around here.
It is so nice to hear the birds of spring again. We have been hearing and seeing blue jays and a Cooper’s hawk. They fly away if I try to get close, so I enjoy their song instead of a photo.
That's a wonderful shot Heather and you managed to capture that lovely iridescence. I listened to the song and I completely get the "squeaky door" description 😂.
@shutterbug49 Wow! Blue jays and a Cooper's hawk! I know what you mean, too, about enjoying their song instead of a photo. I heard a lot of different birds today, but I only managed a photo of the humble sparrow :-)
