H is for Hole

This is a big hole at the base of an old eucalyptus tree. The holes, or hollows, form due to a variety of factors. Termites, fungi, fire, wildlife. In some really big old hollows, they have known to be used for human habitation. This one is near a main road & has had old cement thrown in the base. The brown clumps are parts falling down from inside as it rots.
Very cool....good ideas and wonderful shot

Makes you wonder how some trees survive with such big hollows. Great find.

Fabulous textures. You wouldn't want to look inside, you never know what may be lurking in there.

I wonder how long before it topples :)

Never crossed my mind to even consider holes... but you picked a great picture for it. I like the extra info too. :)

Thankyou for popping by & your comments. The old holes are often used by native animals & birds for nesting. And as the urban sprawl continues the old trees are being destroyed & less places for animals to breed. @dridsdale @leggzy @onewing @hermann might last for many years still :) @merrelyn @zinnia @mittens @stephanies
