I found him like this, looking intently out of the window. I tried to figure out what he was looking at...he seemed to be staring at the little stone wall in the backyard....I can only assume that his intended victim was a chipmunk.
I love the position of his whiskers---they stick out like that when he is tense like this. :-)
Cool shot. They can watch for hours. Many years ago we had gerbils. The cat watched and watched eventually after more than a year there was a gerbil murder - and a very dramatic one. He got the mother of 2 or 3 week old babies which we then had to feed with syringes!!! They survived!
@moirab Oh my! We had hamsters and mice when I was growing up. We used those plastic cages with the places fpr attached tunnels to get to othr plastic cage rooms, and our cats figured out that if they hooked a claw into the holes in the metal cover securing the unused tunnel connection, they could remove them and set all the mice free. I remember seeing my cat with one of our mice in his mouth, so proud of his catch! We always managed to rescue everyone, though one poor mouse had a tear in her ear. That must've been difficult, hand raising baby gerbils.
@mittens Thanks! Florian is too easily frightened to go outside, and Tallulah is way too furry (she would be dirty and tangled) to go out. Mitzi goes but she only stays out a few minutes usually. But sometimes we have visitors indoors that must be dealt with, though if it's a moth, I have to run around turning off lamps before Tallulah knocks them down! :-)
@5unflow3r My one kitty is frightened easily, too, and doesn't go out much so that is a good thing. My other kitty goes out but only hangs out around the patio and doesn't venture anywhere which is also good. They are 15 years old now and have slowed down a lot. I guess we are both lucky our kitties don't venture.
Me thinks Florian's meow is worse than his bite. But he does look quite intent here. This reminds me of boys dreaming of being Cowboys and Indians (oh so politically incorrect, but that's what my brothers did in the 70's). But aside from all the things this photo made me think of, it's a really beautiful portrait of the Orange Cat in his element.
I love how you caught him in such a "evil and thoughtful" pose. Gotta' love Orange Cat! I thought maybe he was plotting your demise...still holding a secret grudge for the Power Outage Dramatics you forced him to do. fav!
