Pom pom by Cherrill

Pom pom

Week 26 already of my 52 blooms - dahlia. These to me are a very old fashioned plant and as a child always reminded me of earwigs!! They used to hide in the flower heads and then fall out!!! ewww! Anyway this year I decided to give them a go - grown from swollen roots called tubers I began them in February and here they are flowering. There are many types of bloom - these are pom poms!
Beautiful dahlias - they come in so many beautiful colours. Great shot.

Beautiful detail. I always recall the earwigs too. My father used bamboo canes to support the blooms and a couple of drops of paraffin down the cane's hollow core used to force the earwigs out of hiding!

@ellida :-) Of course we were smaller then and the dahlias seemed very tall - seeing those earwigs coming out was just ugh! Today of course I love all things insect and earwigs are amazing mothers, moving their little ones if they sense danger.
