Had one of our walking, birding, photography days today. Drove up to the north Norfolk coast, visiting Cley reserve and managed to see the Western Sandpiper that birders have been getting excited about....a vagrant blown over from America only recorded 5 times in Britain.....a tiny little white and brown shore bird...can you tell I wasn't that impressed!? lol For those who know this area this is Choseley, the lane that goes up opposite the Titchwell reserve.
great shot Cherrill. When I saw this I though how have you got such blue skies, It's p'ing down here - then I saw it was yesterday's! Love your commentry on the Sandpipers! really like the perspective - and what a fabulous tree
@sparkle Thanks Juliette. When I posted this I was going to make some remark as to if this was your picture, you would have done some amazing processing and made it spectacular...lol Yes, no blue skies today...grey and drizzly :-(
I saw a report that a few in Norfolk. Yes, you have to be a very excited birder to be blown away with some of these sightings. We nearly got knocked over by a twitcher rush all trying to glimpse a Grey phalarope last year! Great country shot.
a great winter scene cherrill....i used to work with a lady whose hubby was a 'twitcher' a few years ago...she said New Years Day is a big date in the twitcher community because they start a new book of spots again ...I don't know if she was teasing me though :)
enjoy your new year :) ...i can see the attraction of birding :)
@phil_howcroft That's no tease Phil. The 1st of Jan is an important date because you start your year list all over again!! Right from blackbird and starling up to the rarest thing in the land!! Chris has a life list, a year list, a UK list, various country lists.......you get the picture? LOL Happy New year! :-))
A lovely composition and your story of the vagrant did appeal to me. Can you imagine setting out on your customary winter holiday and taking the wrong flight so you ended up halfway round the world? Only this was so much worse since they had to do all the flapping themselves! I wonder at what point they realized they were in trouble.
