The Garden Year
by Sara Coleridge

January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes, loud and shrill,
To stir the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs
Skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
Fills the children's hands with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots, and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit;
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Fresh October brings the pheasant;
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast;
Then the leaves are whirling fast.

Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire, and Christmas treat.

I tried as best I could to match my pictures to this verse! Thank you to everyone who has commented, faved and followed my year in and around our English garden. I shall be around for a 3rd year but probably not every day. I have so much more I want to try including the preservation of some of my dad's old 50's and 60's slides some of which I hope to post.
Happy New Year to everyone.....may your 2012 be blessed with good health and peace.

This is the perfect portrait of you! Your garden shots and gentle teasing always bring a smile to my face, so I'm glad you'll be staying on! We've recently converted all of our slides to digital and had a lot of laughs looking at the changes in us. Enjoy your Dad's images and all the best in the new year!
