Boxed In

Thanks so much to all of you who wished us well with our move yesterday. It went smoothly, but this wasn't really our BIG move. Our new apartment is smaller, so we had to move some large pieces of furniture and some boxes out to our place in Indiana. When the moving van finished unloading and headed back to Chicago, we emptied the boxes and piled them back in the car to bring back to Chicago...for another round of packing. Ugh!

Our BIG move (they tell us it will take 7 men and 2 trucks!) is next Saturday...and I am not looking forward to it...I tell ya'. The 2 trucks DOES sound like we have a ton of stuff, but these are not semi-truck-style moving vans. They use smaller panel trucks here in the city to be able to park in the side streets and alleyways. Okay, okay, I know...it is STILL is a lot, I know.

Anyway, we will hopefully get the keys to our new apt. by the middle of this week, though, so we can begin to hand-carry the fragile and breakables over there several days before then. Hey, Julie! You love moving? You're welcome to help out if you'd like. :-)
good luck sue! i hate moving :))

I'm so glad all has gone well so far... I don't envy you at all! I hope to never leave the cottage where we're living now until it's "feet first!"

Holy cow, I used to manage a moving company, and that is a HUGE move! I think you are very smart to take your breakables yourself - you'd be amazed how many people would be suprised when their fragile things broke. Good luck with the main move next week!

Well, Bless your heart! Did someone really say she *loves* moving?! I think you seem to be handling it quite calmly...or at least you're not leaving us angst-filled commentary! I have no trouble filling a house, but transporting it would be my undoing... Set your sights a couple months down and road and you should be happily settled by them, all this behind you. You're in my thoughts...

Laughed that you'd seen the scaffolding and the re-roofing...we typically take on one major project a summer. When a house is this age, there's always something to be kept up to date, but overall, this has been an exceptionally fit house; we've been lucky!
