Music Box Theater by Swazzette

Music Box Theater

I had to run an errand after work and passed by one of my fave local movie theaters located just down the street from my apartment. It's a classic that was opened in 1929 and is now the scene of many of the films for the Chicago International Film Festival held each November. It's interior is gorgeous with twinkling stars in the ceiling and a beautiful organ that rises from beneath the floor to provide entertainment at intermissions. It was fun to see the Christmas Double Feature listed on the marquee (usually White Christmas and It's a Wonderful Life). That's cool! We have an old restored theater near us. They've kept the prices low ($3.00) and they have the best popcorn. It's a single auditorium but they show about 4 different movies a day. This year's Christmas double feature for a week is Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life.

On my last visit to Chicago I stayed in the Theatre district so when I saw the thumbnail I immediately thought I may have seen this theatre, but I Google'd and nope. :( These old theaters are super cool - architecturally amazing inside and out.

So beautiful! We have a theatre, here in Detroit, the Redford Theatre, and it is beautiful too - you step in there, and you step back into time! The lights twinkle in our ceiling too, and there are clouds that move. It was designed to look like a Japanese outdoor theatre. This photo brings a smile to my face!
