TEXTING...the Old Fashioned Way

I finally got to take a road trip yesterday and see the world outside my neighborhood for a change! We met friends at a restaurant in San Diego where they put postcards on the table to be filled in, and they'd mail them for you. Clever advertising!

So I'm a day out of sync, but it was nice to have "a change of scene" .

"C" is for Chelsea...hehehe
I like your framing.

I agree, this is such a nice composition. I love that purple cardigan too! Whata great idea to have postcards there to send off.

yes I really like the crop too. It brings all the focus onto writing the postcard.

Awwww....I'm so going to miss paper when it's gone. Ha! Great shot! Thanks so much for your comment on my "yellow awning" pic! You asked about the French Market. It opened on the ground floor of the train station just a couple of months ago and it's a wonderful blend of shops and stalls selling everything from produce to fresh baked items, cheese and wine. A fun place! Check out their website at: http://www.frenchmarketchicago.com/

isn't it interesting to look at how other people frame shots? before starting this project, I would never have thought to "cut off" someone's head! (I'm not sure I would think of it now as a SOOC shot!) This is an excellent example of how effective it can be!

i love this photo for some reason, first of all the title is very clever, and the color is gorgeous. the composition is great. and back to the title, seeing a teenager writing a postcard is a rare find these days! even I don't write letters anymore (shame on me, emails are so much easier :) but i still love reading real newspaper and i don't do texting much, expect emails on my blackberry, but that's for work only, so that doesn't count right? :)

Hi, a comment on your comment....Vanna White... never heard a lay figure described in that way but have Googled - so now know a little more. We just call these art accessories as "lay figures".

This is a great shot. I love the composition and how you've captured her so intent on what she's writing. Postcards are the best. Email and texting has it's place... but nothing beats getting something TANGIBLE in the mail. Great job!

I like your framing. And your sense of humor.

Okay, so it's lame that I live here and don't know what restaurant you're talking about. Fess up! Love the shot -- the task, the intent, the purple. Really very nice.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments!

Kelly, and anyone in San Diego wishing to eat at a nice restaurant on the water, that's The Fish Market, right alongside the Aircraft Carrier, Midway. They have a fabulous array of fresh fish dishes! Now they've got a plug and didn't even have to pay for my postcard!

There is so much that is right in this picture--I agree with all the commenters! I love that my eye was drawn to her hands, the way her fingers hold the postcard still and the way she holds the pen. Very "photojournalistic"! I expect to see this with an article about the dying art of written correspondence!
