Is it possible that I have a photo and no "story" to go with it? These scales sit in the bay window at the back of my sink...probably got it at an antique store years ago...it still works and I use it. Tonight, 10# of potatoes. Boring stuff...
Not so boring...Ken and I are going to meet the LA contingent of 365 at Descanso Gardens tomorrow! You don't suppose I'll be taking a lot of pictures? Uploading early tonight so I can rest up for my big day, and I won't be around and writing all over the place for a rare change ;-) I'll miss you guys (and gals!) Have a good weekend!
Nice scales and I hope you made a big old bowl of mash with the spuds!
And yes Loiuse, I'm a big softy inside, bit of an ex hippy.
But with a cynical streak!
Enjoy your weekend.
i feel quite lucky to live in such a beautiful country unlike some countrys where u cant even see the sky
ive only ever seen the usa in movies its ssoooooo big compared to here looks cool though
im pretty sure we dont have racoons either and the squirrels look more fun than sheep
hope u have a good day tomorrow
For someone in Ireland 10lbs of potatoes is not boring! Of course we are so "into" spuds that we'd want to know what variety and how they cook...waxy, floury, dry.... And what their best use is...champ, in skins, baked, steamed.... Potatoes aren't just a vegetable - they're our staple diet. Well, I suppose these days maybe that's not quite so true as it had been a generation or more ago. I have my mother's scales and will photograph them some day soon now that the numbers challenge is over! (Thank you for your comments and for using UK spelling!! That amused me!)
Look forward to hearing how the 365 gathering goes - is this the first? Have a great day - and you were right about finding solace in the on-line community. There's not been so much time to devote to it but the odd look has helped.
I really like this. And I don't think a story is even necessary ... with all that wear and rust on its face I think the scale is telling its own story!
Have a great time with your fellow 365'ers!! I can't wait to hear about it. There has been talk of doing something similar in Chicago - who knows, maybe our Chicago meetup will coincide with a time you are visiting your daughter and you can attend that one too!
Antiques are sometimes the neatest things to capture- such history behind everything! I worked in an antique store when I was in college and saw first-hand how everything has a story...one's mans trash is certainly another man's treasure! Have fun on your excursion :)
Wow. How exciting that you are going to meet some other 365er's. Can't wait to hear the stories and see the photos. I love these scales. And I think it is such a creative idea for the No. 10. Hope your weekend yields precious memories.
Have a great time at the meet-up! I'm curious what you think of meeting your online friends in real life - I never have, though I have a few real life acquaintances who have turned into close online friends because of distance. It's always a little jarring when we suddenly do see each other in person, but still very fun in its own right.
your picture of number 10 is excellent love the old timer and you keep it right in front of you at your by window.
so are you cooking 10 lbs of potatoes
i make a mean german potatoe salat. which i could be there with all of you but we will have to wait patiently till you get back. please take lots of pictures.
Really love this -- anything old catches my eye -- especially kitchen gadgets. Nice perspective. Btw -- got your message, but not sure where the "park" or message board are. Hints? :)
hey Louise - just wanted to stop by and let you know about the TTV process.....
TTV is definitely cheaper than throwing some film into the TLR (the camera I used for my ttv images has a 2 year old roll of film inside it I just haven't gotten around to finishing off), although its really a totally different effect that you get...so it really depends on what your wanting...
So the idea is that you basically shoot through the view finder of the TLR. The trick is, you really need to block out the light. I got myself a PVC pipe and did a little bit of grinding so that it fit snuggly over the TRL's viewfinder on one end and then into my DSLR on the other end. Lots of tape later, it blocks out the light perfectly. Its a complete eye sore though and Ive had some very funny looks on the few times ive taken it out onto the street..haha....
so thats about it..its lots of fun but can be fairly awkward until you get a feel for it.
Ah..Louise, I have missed stopping by the last few days...you are someone I have particularly missed. :-)
Love the antique clock....so interesting.
Oh, the stories it could probably tell! hee
Am REALLY looking forward to seeing the pics from your adventure, today!
Very cool picture, love the scale! Michael is my husband I should have commented on your picture wall rather than my own, you probably didn't see it. He did have a squirrel picture up and he also posted some pictures of Butchart Gardens. :)
Creative number 10, Louise! I enjoyed the number challenge but now am ready to just shoot whatever I feel like doing for awhile. Anxious to hear about the CA meetup. I think some others were meeting in Washington, DC today. Hope one day it works out for me to meet some of the 365 family ;-)
I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve. Unforunately, our 365 gathering ended up just being the two of us but we still had a good time. Maybe next time we will have better luck. =\
what an amazing scale with such a history to it! i echo what everyone else has said, that you are so creative and i am excited to keep following you :)

Wish I would have been more observant there was a 'grouping' grouping on the morrow. I'm in Arcadia and church is in La Cresenta tomorrow.
Mayhap another time .....
