Alex Morales http://365project.org/alexm555/365/2010-04-01 put together the first 365 gathering of the LA contingent, and it couldn't have been a nicer day! Though I know he was expecting more people, we were a group of four, Ken and me and Andrea http://365project.org/andybphotos/365/2010-02-03 . Alex was familiar with the gardens and took us on a wonderful tour over the course of many hours. The photo opportunities were endless, and we shared our captures as we walked along. Can't wait to meet again another day!
As soon as I said Ken & I would join the group, I had my plan in mind for today's photo. In my art room, I have a photo (it's a copy) I bought at an antiquarian book fair many years ago. I was so glad I'd written on the back what the seller told me...It's of the "Sacramento Camera Club", and unless someone can tell me otherwise, I'm guessing (from the clothing style) it was taken late in the 1800s. (The "flare" in the lower right is on the photo itself.) But isn't it just wonderful!
I lack the skills in Photoshop to make a better collage, but I love the two pictures together! I was so excited to share them with all of you!
And in case anyone would like to see some more photos...lots of flowers and a few more "people pictures", I decided to make a Shutterfly site to share with you. http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/
Can you hear me humming,...What a day this has been...What a rare mood I'm in...
Excellent! I am so jealous that you are getting to meet some of our 365 friends in person! I am glad you had such a great day! I'm off to check your shutterfly site...
Envy is a sin, isn't it? That is a great picture and I look forward to catching up with the photographs of the day....later. Meanwhile, enjoy the obviously very pleasant memories.
loved the album...i didn't comment as often as I was tempted...don't want to be obnoxious, but you had a lot of really great shots...loved those daffodils! BTW, I commented after your comment on the camel shot.
Enjoyed all ~150 shots and I looked at each and every one. Those gardens looked amazing! Mrs. Matt would have really loved those tulips! :) Oh, and seeing those Highway 5 signs brought back some memories...I was based in Tustin, CA 20+ years ago and was stuck in traffic there many many times. Looks like you guys had a great day. Thanks for sharing Louise!
loved all the photos , really loved the two turtles following each other out of the pond , so cute !!! I wished i lived closer cos i would of came along , looks like u all had fun and wow that place looks magic !!!!
oopppsss didnt comment on the above photos , love ur idea of thought then and now !!! Great score getting the old photo . Love the dude at the front checking out the camera beside him lol
Sounds like a fabulous day. I am excited to look at the photos in the link. Thanks for sharing the photo of the old and new "camera clubs". It sure would be interesting to see the photos captured by the the old club.
I really like the image of the old and the new. What a wonderful idea! I'm glad that it was fun and put you in a rare mood....! That's a wonderful treat! Enjoy it.
Wow, great photos. I ran the slideshow on Shutterfly and enjoyed looking at all 151 photos. Some great shots. And I also liked the old camera club pic with the current pic. No need to apologize for lacking skills in Photoshop. The way you have the two together looks great.
I never knew Shutterfly had such a great looking site. My niece has used it and I never recall it looking like that.
Those gardens seem like a great place to shoot flower photos, obviously. I have to tell my son about them. I checked the map and it turns out he lives about thirty minutes west of there. We visit his family three times a year and maybe I can get him to do a photo walk at the gardens as he loves photography too.
ohhhh very nice album! especially the bird of paradise, always one of my favorites. stuff like that doesnt grow around here! i lived in la crescenta...went to h.s. there. i was back last fall for a reunion, my first trip out there in quite a while. i was saddened by all the fire damage, but i had forgotten all the amazing things that grow in that climate.
Love your spellings on the last couple of postings...maybe a coffee would help! You were quite right about the tin! And yes....let's hope that meeting up can be a reality - it would be such fun to gather.....Have a good Sunday and look forward to squirrels....getting withdrawal symptoms!
Gorgeous photos on your site. Agree with Cindy that the variety of flowers blooming simultaneously was unusual. Here in Richmond the daffodils have been replaced by tulips but the lilacs come later, followed by roses. Do you think it was just the magic touch of the gardeners or does LA have a special magical zone?
so glad you get to meet some of the fellow 365ers, i will check out the photos! :) i love "now and then" photo idea, i think i want to "borrow" it sometime :))
>>Louise, in regards to our discussion of squirrel pics. I did take two last year and have put them on a shutterfly site I created just for that reason. http://rayswrld.shutterfly.com/pictures/8
I am so happy that your meetup went so well! It sounds like you had a great time. You guys certainly picked an ideal location to meet, too! I looked at your photos on shutterfly and they are magnificent! I can't even name my favorites because I had far too many. :) I love what you have posted here - what a great idea to do a then & now collage!
I love Descanso Gardens and was very frustrated I have to work Saturdays. Maybe we can do a weekday sometime? Nice shot (both). Those old-timer photogs would probably kill for today's technology--at least the light weight of our cameras! I'd like to get my hands on one of those large-format rigs, however!
it's wonderful looking at you in the photos. i do not know if you've seen my comments in one of your earliest photos with your husband in it. you both looked sweet together!
Looks like you had a great day, great collage. I've looked at all your pics on Shutterfly, they're great, some beautiful flowers, made me long for this spring to rush by a bit! Our Wisteria buds are about 1 inch long, so are the lilacs and the iris are way off!
love the contrast of today and yesteryear! I wonder if the girl is also a member of this photography club or a family member! I'm glad you enjoyed meeting with other 365ers!
Drat!!! My comment did not post! I had meant to tell you earlier that I am jealous on two counts:
1) You got to meet Andi before me! Not fair!
2) Andi got to meet you before me! not fair!
LOL
As for my own "group photo", I have one but I am not sure either of us want to post it. They have a green screen at the entrance of the Academy of Sciences where they stop you to take a picture. We stopped. He made a face at me. We started cracking up. An odd (but happy) photo was the result. If Dave is okay with it, I will post it. =)
love the old b/w picture. boy wouldn't be neat if they could tell could speak of their kind of photography in those bygone days. your meeting was held in a beautiful surrounding a lovely park. i enjoyed looking at all the pictures you took. here are some comments: a real lovely picture of the ducks in the pond. i have never seen a hummingbird sit still on a branch. lovely. you took beautiful pictures of all the gorgeous flowers. reminds me of a park we have here in toronto called "edward's garden" it is a very well appointed showplace of lots of trees, flowers, ponds, streams and nature at it's best. we go there at least twice a year - in the spring and later in the fall. there are lovely walkways among the flowers. you have to get there early as the parkinglots fills up fast. how interesting to read the writeup of that particular rose.nice places to sit, rest and contemplate. then their was that beautiful blue bush, do you know the name of it?? and the last one, i want to say pergula but i think it has a different name can't think of it right now, it was beautiful and do i see a backrest of a bench there too? i am glad you didn't let the no -show derter you guys from having a good time together.
hi again just found out that there were 151 pictures you took. i overlooked that last night must have been awful tired and it got close to midnight. so i will look at the others tomorrow as i am going to bed now again it is going on 11.30 not much earlier than last night. so i wil say good night.
Loved your photo slideshow. Those turtles!! Adore. :) Flowers and all those yummy colors. *sigh* Looks like a wonderful adventure. Thank you so much for sharing such a fabulous trip!!! Your photo for today is awesome! Such a wonderful idea and a beautiful memory to always look back upon.
What a grand story you tell - just wonderful. I just love the photos, I look forward to checking out the sites you have put up there. You look as though you are all enjoying yourselves :)
Oh, what fun! How lucky you all were to find time to meet up and share your passions! Beautiful photos from the day, Louise, and what a gorgeous garden!! Thanks for sharing it with all of us! :-)
OH Goodness...I thought I'd commented the other day on this.
( where or where is my mind? )
How wonderful that you were able to share an adventure with a couple of other 365'ers! And how perfect is the photography club photo to go along with it!
Your photos of the gardens are simply breathtaking! It looks and sounds like it was one amazing day!
Very cool that you guys got together. I've traveled across the country twice to meet up with food bloggers and it's always fun. The gardens sound gorgeous, so I'll have to check out your snaps. If you like making collages, upload Picasa and give it a shot. It really is less work than using Photoshop in my opinion, and you can have some fun :)
