Touch Down! by Weezilou

Touch Down!

We're about to be "Pretend Canadians"for the next four months!

Heather picked us up from Ashley's house just after 8 AM, and we had a day of plane flights planned ahead. We settled down in the Admirals Club with our computers, but as time approached for Flight #1, it was cancalled...nada...zilch! That was suppose to take us through DC to connect to JFK/NYC. Let me tell you how terrific everyone was about this change...Fantastic! They booked us later straight to New York, leaving us even more 365 computer time in a comfortable chair! No hitch in that flight, and again time for a glass of wine (Plan B) and more computer while we waited to head on to Halifax.

That last flight was on American Eagle, three seats across the aisle, so "small". But what a great way to get to know your neighbor! We met the nicest man, a native Nova Scotian who was so interesting, we exchanged cards, and we hope to see him one day in Lunenburg. Also, the Flight Attendant, Valentin, took the time to let us know we were welcome to a free drink *of choice* and gave us an immense bag of trail mix to go with it. When he saw me taking a picture of the bar set up in front of me, he asked...and I told him all about us! Yes, I got his email, and yes, (Hi Valentin!) he's going to take a look when I send him the link! So say lots of nice things about our hard working flight attendants, American Airlines and Nova Scotia; we want him to feel welcome here :-)

I'm coming back later to add a link to my Shutterfly site as I have a few new pictures of airports, planes and Valentin. We had such a good time!

We were met at the airport by our friends, Alan & Susan, back in Lunenburg by just after midnight, and asleep by 3AM. This whole trip may have been the easiest we've done yet!

Oh, thanks for all the suggestions as to how else I can change my profile name ;-) Was having a little fun yesterday as it seems Ken was doing a lot of "my" photography. I might revert after a few days, or come up with something new now & then...you'll know where to find me now...I'm in Lunenburg Nova Scotia!
Just curious; How did you pick NS as your summer destination all those years ago?

Once Upon a Time... ...it starte with our friends from Australia telling us about this beautiful place in Nova Scotia... ...fast forward, we visited, fell in love, and the end of the story is we bought a house in the Historic District back 2001, and have been spending summers here since... Will be brokenhearted when the day comes that we're too old to travel the distance....

Welcome "home", "Pretend Canadians"!!! ;-))) Glad to hear that your cancelled flight resulted in a more pleasant trip, Louise!! It's all about the positive outlook - every bad thing is for the better!! And a glass of wine and 365 doesn't sound bad at all, to fill in the empty hours!! :-)) Looking forward to Lunenburg photos and more heart-warming stories!! ;-))

May 13th, 2010
Hooray! Happy to hear you've landed safely and had a pleasurable travel day! That doesn't surprise me, though. As Slava has pointed out...with YOUR positive outlook on life, I think you can turn every lemon into lemonade! Ha!

I can't wait to see some of your pics over the next four months. I took a moment to peruse a Lunenberg website and have to say that I can see why you fell in love with the place. Never been to that part of the country, myself, but I tell ya' - after looking at some of the picures...well, look for over at The Old Fish Factory real soon...order me the Baked Halibut with Strawberry Salsa and a brewski! Teehee. Happy Unpacking!

:-)

You are the only person I know that is enthusiastic about flight delays or other hick-ups in the road. Of course, you befriended the flight attendant and invited him to our little party. We wouldn't have expected it any other way ;-)) You are just great, Louise. Have a joyous summer!
