Ashlea House Bed & Breakfast, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
A morning visit to a large flea market yielded up rhubarb chutney for me, and hedge clippers for Ken, but just generic photos of laden tables. As we headed home, I asked Ken to pull over so I could photograph Ashlea House in the event the day didn't have anything better to offer. The only other picture I would have liked to have taken was when, visiting with friends out in the street, a bald eagle made several passes overhead. I didn't happen to be carrying my camera.... Another "exciting" moment today was when I found perfect raccoon footprints on our back deck. We've seen them before, so I know they're in the neighborhood. That's as exciting as it got today, so here's the best I have to offer...and I don't even have one of those nice angles with a sign in the composition. You can't argue that it *IS* a beautiful day, however!
So, for all of you who are saying you'd love to come to Lunenburg, here's another of the lovely B&B's we have in town, and just down the street from The Bluenose Lodge http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-05-23 Ashlea House is a registered historical home and features an authentic "widows walk". It was built in 1886 for a wealthy Lunenburg merchant. It has "...some of Lunenburg's last surviving exterior Victorian gingerbread trim". The widow's walk "offers a panoramic view of Lunenburg Harbour and the surrounding area." The gazebo in front was added in 2004. For photos of the house originally http://www.ashleahouse.com/history.html
(They ought to slip me a check for this fine advertising!) They offer a choice of 7 guest rooms ranging from $109 - $129 from now through June. The price increases in July through mid-September (because that's when we have a lot of wonderful events in town!) The price includes a hot, country style breakfast.
And on one last note, I was asked for pictures of the interior of St John's church I pictured yesterday. I posted the photos I took last October on my site http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/1301 if you're interested.
I'll be thrilled if the sky continues to look like this through the summer. I hardly did a thing to alter this photo!
i always look for nice B&B place to stay wherever we go. this place looks really nice, and yes, they better give you a big check for spreading the news :))
You're right, they should pay you for your fine advertising! This looks like a beautiful place, not to mention, lovely weather!! I can't wait until some sunshine comes back my way!
wow this sky IS pretty!! a lovely deep blue....
and yes! you should get payed even the slightest bit for advertising :)
haha but wow, what a lovely house...so many textures and colors...I love the landscaping too!
What a gorgeous spot, Louise!! Seems to me that we really have to visit Lunenburg soon!!! The gingerbread trim is so cute - love the name of it, too! Sorry i couldn't visit your page earlier, but we spent the day working on our new home. The house is transforming really quick (my husband definitely knows what he's doing, I just do what he tells me to) and I am so excited that i'll be able to invite friends over soon ;-)) Life is good when the sun is shing and the sky is blue! :-)
So many beautiful buildings; a real feast for the eyes. You're a wonderful tour guide, and they should definitely spot you a room for a weekend for all the publicity you're giving them. :)
wow, look at that blue sky and what a beautiful house - the Lunenburg Tourist Board really ought to be paying you! I'm sure their bookings are going to be way up next season as hoards of 365-ers flock there for our holidays
Louise, isn't this just the epitome of what we love about Lunenburg? So beautiful! I wish I was back there. You never said (I never saw) what took you to Nova Scotia in the first place 10 years ago.
The old wharf building might be gone as that was in 2006 and it was in pretty bad shape than as you can see! It is (was) on the road from Lunenburg to Mahone Bay, after Mader's Cove on the right next to the water just a little ways before the public dock.
Your photos make me want to come visit! Isn't that so frustrating when you don't have your camera? I went to run errands yesterday and didn't bring mine... only to drive by the beach and realize it was just after the start of the Figawi - an annual sailboat race from Hyannis, MA to Nantucket. I kicked myself all the way to Home Deopt and back!
Thanks for your comment the other day. I thought that was such an interesting statement to see scrawled on a church door. Was it agreement? Condescension? A cry for help?
Gorgeous day it is for you! Lovely blue sky around this lovely house. I want the gazebo! :) I don't know why I love gazebos, but I do...wanted one at my house(s) for years! haha! :)
What a beautiful house. There is a house in my street that looks almost identical except it is white and doesn't have the gorgeous garden. Whenever I pass it, I dream of living there on day. I love houses like this!
Oh and yes, you are right, Bowie is deaf but he doesn't let it bother him in the slightest! :)
Looks like a place my husband and I would enjoy. I'll have to make a note of it as we've never been to Nova Scotia and sometimes like new ideas about where to travel and what to see. It's lovely!
Thanks heaps for the comments on my shot, and no, I didn't realise people were asking where I'd gone. I've only been on the site maybe 2 or 3 times in the last 2 months and only just for a quick browse.
What a beautiful place to spend some time to relax. I love the woodworking and colors of the building...the stonework adds to the lovely feel. Makes me want to enjoy a morning cup of coffee in the gazebo and feel the suns rays.
beautiful! (I'm not gonna say the other thing, but you know I'm thinking it.) By the way, I can't believe you broke the golden 365 rule! :) Seriously, I assumed you had a camera clipped on your hip at all times.
Loved this and it brings back memories of when we visited Ireland to see our daughter, the places she took us to for B & B were so wonderful, homely and cosy. Lovely photo.
Hey!
I think I saw this photo last year and then forgot about it as we had no plans to go to NS until last month when the idea came up. Funny enough THIS is one of two places that I chose to stay in Lunenburg in August! I stumbled across your photos from "last" summer and then just saw this one again! How cool!

Bring it on - I am loving all these wonderful photos of buildings and your surroundings there.

I try so hard to remember to take my camera with me all the time. I too have had such great missed opportunities.
Have a wonderful day! I'm headed out the door in a few minutes for a Civil War reenactment festival.
