On a morning that began with a steady rain, a walk along Back Harbour was scrapped for a drive to Petite Riviere. We took the ferry across the LaHave (pronounced as in "Hay") River and drove south. A favourite destination is this wonderful gallery tucked back away from the white-sand beaches, but along a lovely river. The owners and artists, Tom Alway and Peter Blais were saying goodbye to a number of shoppers as we arrived. They've got that outgoing and friendly Nova Scotia personality, and were most agreeable when I asked if I could take some photos of their gallery for 365. In this photo, that's an example of Peter's folk art in the chicken and painted fish, and Tom creates much of the bold, contemporary Maritime art. They also design wonderful pieces of furniture, much of it whimsically painted in a folk art style. In an area that abounds with a great deal of art, this gallery is one of my personal favourites. We continued down the coast and stopped for a late lunch before heading home. The rain let up in the late afternoon, and we hope to have the sun back again tomorrow.
Great shot! What a wonderful gallery! The fish are too cute, and I love that painting of the red house with the red rowboat. They really create such beautiful art (as does the photographer who took this!).
Oh I love this type of thing! These small local galleries always produce great gems. I'll take a couple of the fish and a painting please! Wonderful bright colours and a great refuge from the rain.
Wow, this is so great. I especially like the chicken, it's in a VERY good mood! Yay!
Louise, thank you for your comment and wishing the migraine to migrate away for a long time. One thing I didn't get: which Anna do you mea? I'm a bit at a loss! Hugs!
This is so beautiful! I seem to remember a store in Lunenburg that had about 3 or 4 rooms of lovely art like that. I don't know if it is still there or not - I seem to remember a garden in the back. Do you know what I am talking about? I loved that store and spent a lot of time browsing it.
What a fun way to spend a rainy day! Love those bright colors. Thanks for mentioning the chicken in your caption... if you hadn't I would have missed it tucked away in the corner like that, but I think that one's my favorite piece.
I love those fish & the little chicken, what a lovely gallery. Hope you'll get the sun back. Thank you for your comments on my page about loosing our Lula, very thoughtful of you, we'll miss her.
Gorgeous artwork! I absolutely love the paintings above the fish. I would definitely hang that in my home. I like the fishies too but I'm not sure they would be at home in any of my rooms LOL.
I love little neat galleries like that!! The fishes are adorable -so colorful and cute!! When we went to Sedona, I was impressed with some of the artwork we saw. Thank you for sharing this happy shot, Louise! ;-))
Louise, I JUST love Folk Art!
My brother makes it, and I have been the lucky recipient of a number of really cool pieces from him over the years. At Christmas, I will post pics of all of the folk art Santas that he's made for me.
We used to have a store in our little village that sold fish art like that! I just love it all!
It's so bright and cheery.
I also looked at that fellow's art, and I want one of everything! ;-)
I have a little note for you on today's photo....and I forgot to tell you that I left you one on my "Black Water" photo from the 27th, as well.
I will catch up on my emails, soon! ;-)
What interesting artwork this kinda looks like something my sister would somehow decorate a room around. She is kinda funny like that. I love going to art galleries they are always a blast. This one looks like no exception to the rule :-)
