"Paint Sea On Site", a Lunenburg Tradition

This weekend, Lunenburg hosts "Paint Sea on Site", and every year I enjoy photographing the artists at work as well as bidding on art at the end of the day. ( I have several paintings of our house done by different artists in previous years.) This year it was a case of "Look But Don't Touch"...my walls are full! (This pains me greatly...) I compiled the following paragraphs from a local site. As our visitors are from Santa Fe, I think they'll be amazed that this area is said to rival even that art community in the number of participants and the quality of the work.

****I seem to have mis-worded this as some have the impression this is my house...it's not! Mine = http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-05-21 In my additional photos, I have a painter doing an oil of my street with her interpretation of our house in it.

"This annual fund raising event (July 24 and 25, 2010), in its 11th year, has about 70 artists setting up and painting throughout Lunenburg. In a town that rivals Santa Fe's reputation for having the most people involved in art, this event brings a vitality that enhances the already established art community."

"The artists set up their easels all over town and the surrounding area. Paint Sea on Site sale is a wonderful opportunity for the public to observe artists at work and to have the chance to buy work they've been watching the artist create."

For a series of photos of the artists at work, I've added this http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/2742
what fun to fill your walls with different paintings of your house! I would love to see that wall.........I imagine it is wonderful! The photo fits the theme well :o)

Wow! What an amazing painting, as well as a great thing to do for a weekend.
July 25th, 2010
Aww, Louise, this is really special! I too would love to see the paintings of Sea On Site pasts :) What a lovely tradition / fundraiser! Your home is B E A U T I F U L...Hell, if I could do anything artistic as far as drawing or painting, I'd want to paint your house too! As it stands now, I guess I could paint the trim...maybe the lattace work or something... :D No, really, this is awesome! Love it !

my rooms are decorated with work by a number of local artists, but I don't have groups of any one subject (like my house!) On the link above, there's an artist painting down our street but she used a lot of liberty, and it doesn't look much like what lay in front of her!
July 25th, 2010
Sounds like a great event. There are so many neat events in your neck of the woods. The one on your post actually looks really nice.
July 25th, 2010
Your house is gorgeous! And that flower box is incredibly beautiful! What a fabulous shot with the painting right in front of the subject!!!
July 25th, 2010
very pretty....I always admire people that can draw/paint.....
July 25th, 2010
A great shot! I wish I could paint! This sounds like a great time, though!
July 25th, 2010
Out of all the photos for this event, I like the one you posted best! Great composition! Your house is just beautiful. I just love that you cropped the photo to match the painting!
July 25th, 2010
Sounds like an exciting few days I too admire those who can create by paint or pencil (my wife being one) but I look at my photography as an art form maybe not to everyones taste but certainly my way of expressing myself artistically
July 25th, 2010
how fun is that?!
the photo (and the painting) are wonderful!!
July 25th, 2010
It would be very interesting to visit a happening like that. Wonderful photo!
July 25th, 2010
Wow! What a great fundraiser. I wish we had something like that... My husband and I are always saying we want to buy original art, but we never do! I Iove this photo; it's so pretty... the painting is beautiful!
July 25th, 2010
that's a great idea! how neat it must be to have different renditions of your summer home!! at least you were able to capture this one of film even if you couldn't purchase it!!
July 25th, 2010
Your house is so pretty with the flowers and the way it's painted... makes my flower boxes look sad. :-) hehe What a fun event to watch all around town. It seem you live in an idyllic setting. Does California compare? This is a gorgeous photo, Louise.
July 25th, 2010
Great capture. That painting is amazing also.
July 25th, 2010
Love that picture - great idea to have the painting as well as the subject! Fabulous colours. Very "summer" in feel.
July 25th, 2010
Oh, that must be very exciting to see the artists at work or to even set up an easle and paint. I like the painting in your photo, as well, I like your photo, too.
July 25th, 2010
I'd love to see this, it's a wonderful idea! I love that painting and if that's an example of what there is to see, it must be a fabulous experience. A great photo!
July 25th, 2010
Nice to see the picture by the subject.
Banksy is quite prolific in the UK and did some work in Brighton which has been covered in plexiglass sheets to preserve it, his famous kissing policemen image is by the station. It's quite ironic that his graffiti is being preserved rather than removed!
July 25th, 2010
This is a wonderful tradition for a community. I do like your picture because you get a very good perspective of the artists work.
July 25th, 2010
Lovely picture & great write up!
July 25th, 2010
Re: yes great soak in colour & syko & Nero are happy . Me on long break will see them soon, they getting big..!

July 25th, 2010
nice relaxing porch.....
July 25th, 2010
I'm not surprised that an artist looked at yourhouse to paint. it's so beautifully appointed. and i'm sure these different paintings you acquired over the years look fabulous in you home. what a great event these two days are.. would love to see it all.
July 25th, 2010
A lovely picture. I enjoyed all the pictures from the link and I'm sure it was hard to choose which one to use here. I do love the one you chose. Love the daisies and flowers in the window. I love your point of view.
July 25th, 2010
Louise, this is such a great choice to share with us. It really depicts Lunenburg so well. Love all the colors and the flowers!
July 25th, 2010
Such a gorgeous shot and what an amazing event.
July 25th, 2010
What an amazing event! How cool that you have had your house painted by local artists so many times. I love it.

To answer your question about my cicada - I am afraid my little buddy was indeed deceased. Cicadas do go through a stage where they "molt" their shells and when you see those shells on the ground and stuck to trees they do look like they are dead insects. However, this little guy already had wings so he was at the end of his life cycle.
July 25th, 2010
What a lovely photo of a painting of your house - so fresh & I love the colours!
We only have so much space on our walls don't we :D
July 25th, 2010
Both very beautiful the painting and the photo.
July 25th, 2010
Beautiful photo Louise and I like the others you captured with the artists in action.
July 25th, 2010
Beautiful picture....! This would be so much fun to watch and the photograph...and to also keep. I should see if they do this in Indy. I need some wall hangings.
July 25th, 2010
what a beautiful house you have, Louise, my eyes are feasting on the colourful flowers you have by the window! great subject for a painting!
July 25th, 2010
How wonderful!
July 25th, 2010
so interesting :) i would love to walk up and down the streets watching the artists work. and i think it is great your own collection.
July 25th, 2010
Great shot. Great house. Great painting. This reminds me of something that was either a theme or project where you would take an old photo, hold it up at its location and take a picture of it superimposed over the present surroundings. That explanation is probably not clear. LOL!
July 25th, 2010
Two different mediums for seeing the same thing!! .. Love it!! :-D
July 25th, 2010
What an amazing event that must be! You captured it very well too.
July 25th, 2010
Beautiful picture of your beautiful house. I love the flowers in front of the window. Colorfull. 'Fave'
July 25th, 2010
Oh i love this! So interesting with the painting in the foreground - like a photo in a photo. Love it!!!!
July 25th, 2010
Beautiful house and pic. Makes me wonder why the artist chose to change the color of the house. I llike it dark.
July 25th, 2010
Ha ha, thats a great shot! Nice angle, and its a cracking painting too isnt it?
July 25th, 2010
Fantastic picture of a picture of your house! Must be great to have artists wanting to make paintings of your home, and a very lovely one it is too. My eldest son is now off school until 6th September, we are going to visit relatives for a week from next Saturday, so might not be able to upload regularly. But we are working during some of the rest of the holiday.
July 25th, 2010
What fun to have such talented artists painting all around the town. I'd be like you, I think, with my walls full of their paintings. This one is so lovely - are you sure you don't have room for just one more!
July 25th, 2010
Wonderful paintings. Must be amazing to see these great paintings next to their subjects.
July 25th, 2010
Very cool! Thanks for the link!
July 26th, 2010
if it was me i would do the back of your house...you would have to buy it! ( ty for your recent comments louise.)
July 26th, 2010
That's such a lovely idea - and a really great shot!
July 26th, 2010
ok, i looked at the painting...i guess i would add dill in the window! (yes its our reunion..be seeing sue and the others friday nite if i don't lose anything else!)
July 26th, 2010
oops! lol i guess i thought this was your house because it looks a little purple-ish...my bad :)
July 26th, 2010
Adore this....excellent!
July 26th, 2010
WOW. that painting is gorgeous.
July 26th, 2010
How fun! It must hard to resist bidding!
July 26th, 2010
Such a fun event. I think they should have a photo exhibit day, too....you could make a fortune with your photos of the houses about town. I see that Richard mentioned the reunion. I just can't wait to see him after all these years. Should be great fun!
July 26th, 2010
You got some wonderful shots of all the artists painting their impressions of your beautiful town. I really enjoyed getting to see all their art through your photos. Thanks for sharing these with us!
July 26th, 2010
I love those sort of events. I visited one recently on Balboa Island where a friend of mine was painting. How great that your house gets immortalized and how difficult to not buy the painting of your house every year.
July 26th, 2010
Sounds like such a fabulous event, something I know I would really enjoy attending. I love how you have captured the artist's work next to the actual home. really really beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing, I REALLY love any house pictures you share!

(oh and the beignets were from a little local shop... don't remember the name, but I was told they were lighter and flakier than Cafe Du Monde, plus they drizzle honey and add fresh strawberries.... and yes, it has been soooo hard fighting the sugar cravings now that I'm home... so hard...)
July 26th, 2010
This is so cool!
July 26th, 2010
LOL! Your walls are full? Maybe it's time to sell or give away and bring in a fresh breeze? Do you still have space on your wall in CA? Btw, how is your daughter doing? I hope she and the baby are doing well. :)
July 26th, 2010
I would love to attend a festival like this and of course, living in the area (if only for a few months a year) makes the paintings all the more interesting ...and desirable to you. You certainly did discover a real gem when you found Lunenberg.
July 26th, 2010
What a wonderful event!!! The paiting is so beautiful! Too bad your walls are all full... But at least, you have a photograph of it! ;-)
July 27th, 2010
Wow, what a gorgeous painting, and an equally beautiful house! I so wish I could paint, or draw! I am one of those people who can't draw stick people LOL.

Thank you so much for your kind words on the butterfly photo! My yard is so overrun with weeds right now because of the heat and rain that it's not funny. Good thing that most of the weeds have flowers and the butterflies and bugs don't mind a bit LOL.
July 27th, 2010
The tradition sounds so much fun. I like the house and the painting. You photographed them very nicely.
July 27th, 2010
Sounds like a really fun event. I love the architecture and charm of all of these homes! I was in Martha's Vineyard years ago and it reminds me a bit of your locale. Hmm...something tells me no artist will be setting up their easel and paint palette in front of my boring 50's ranch-style house :).
July 27th, 2010
Wow this festival sounds very cool. Love the picture - great capture!
