On the hill overlooking Lunenburg a huge tent is erected for Folk Harbour Festival shows, and the one this morning is one of my favorites. More than half of the 20+ musical groups gather for a 2-hour program of gospels and spirituals that have the 1500 audience members on their feet, clapping and singing along. There's no preaching, but there's a fervor generated by the music, and the feeling is hard to explain. Writing this, and looking at the photo, it seems a subdued moment. Other choices would have been to show a wider angle of the scale of the tent and the crowd, or to show the stage filled with musicians. Trust that it was joyous and set the tone for the rest of the day!
We spent some more time in the park in the afternoon before walking into town for lunch. We sat out on the deck and listened to another musical venue out on the warf. Afterward, we took our friends to tour the wonderful Fisheries Museum, and that took the rest of the day, being a 3-story building with an aquarium and extensive collection of artifacts about ships, sailing & early days in Nova Scotia.
After a long evening of visiting, I'm the last one still up, looking at some of your pictures. Thanks for all the nice comments these past days when I didn't have time to be here much or reciprocate. Fortunately it looks like I'm not the only one "on vacation"; I'll be back soon!
ohhh, that sounds SO fun!! very often the singing and worship is all the 'preaching' necessary!!
i hope one day very soon you're going to get to take a big ol' nap--you've been mighty busy!! (:
I can hear the music now! I just love going to music festivals, when I lived in California we used to go to the Grass Valley Bluegrass festival. It was AMAZING and we saw some wonderful muscians and met such wonderful people. This picture reminds me of that.
Thank YOU for all of your comments! They always put a smile on my face when I see them! :-)
I'm holding up all right without her being here. I start college in two weeks, so hopefully that'll make the time fly! Besides, we still get to talk every once in a while over the computer, and such. I'm just for now keeping myself busy with friends and getting ready for school! Hopefully my year will go by as quickly as the past couple of weeks seem to have!
wow! what a wonderful show that must've been! our church has a live band with drums, guitar, etc... Sometimes even a saxophone! it gets my blood pumping! gotta love it!
Wow! What a fun day. I enjoyed listening to the video especially the fiddle player! I like the composition on your photo with the people's heads making the bottom frame.
Thank you for all your comments! I, too will give any music a try, and I love live musical performances.my photo for Monday will include chanting rather than my normal music selections. Hope you enjoy it.
Wonderful day...and story about your day. As always, I enjoy reading and seeing how you have spent your day. It's hard to believe that it's coming to an end for me....
I think this "little" town never sleeps they have one event after another, incredible. Thanks for your comment on Luna's picture. Yes she is as good hearted as she looks on that picture and she and my son are great buddies.
You must be having the time of your life Louise! It's like one big party that never ends. I was looking at RV's this past Saturday and thinking that might be the only way I'll ever be able to travel to all the places I would like to visit. I'm not a fan of camping but it would be nice to take the boys on trips and not worry about having a place that wouldn't take dogs. In order to buy one of these little RV's...I would have to take on a couple more part time jobs...lol
Re music: I am kind of selfish and pick theisic that is inspired by the photo I choose. I will start adding a little more personal info about the people getting tattooed. Thank you for the idea!
It sounds like a wonderful event and a very nice way to start the day. I'm glad you're having a great time with your friends!
Thank you for your comment on my train shot. There's definitely some decay on the Cape, but you have to know where to look. Sadly, Hyannis is becoming more and more decayed as the years pass. My husband and I were just remarking, after going out for drinks on a night where the bar should have been packed, that we don't think people are really coming to Hyannis as much anymore... they're all headed down to Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, etc. to find what's left of the "real" Cape Cod. There are parts of Hyannis where I definitely no longer feel safe, and the little "bad" pockets that were always there are expanding. It's really sad to see.
Sounds like another wonderful day. I can just imagine the music, because due to my dodgy internet haven't been able to se the video, I bet it was heavenly! : ) Thanks for your comments about the canal photo, the children had a great time there I've got one more day before I'm back at work, but then we're away visiting friends at the weekend and then to Dorset for a week on 20th so busy too, but never as much as you and Ken!
What a fun time that must be! Thanks for commenting on my spider web. I have really enjoyed all the insects posted on 365 this year. I get to see them up close but not have to be worried about them!
As the mother of a mandolin player, I am concerned that the guy with the mando is in the background. I protest second class citizenship for mando players!
