If you had the opportunity to see a world leader visit your community, you'd sieze the opportunity, too, wouldn't you? We heard through the grapevine that Stephen Harper, the Prime Minister of Canada, was coming to Lunenburg for a brief press-photo op and to announce that the federal government was donating $4.9 mil toward the restoration of Bluenose II. I went to the site where the press was signing in, but found "365project.org" didn't make the cut. (That's a joke...I didn't really embarrass myself by asking!) They were so nice as to tell me where I might get a good photo when he arrived, so Ken and I waited in the shade, watched the small amount of police activity and the motorcade when it arrived. I was delighted with our chosen location as we were front and center for photos. When you have an opportunity like that, it sort of puts the rest of the day's pictures out of the running!
That is great that they are restoring the ship. I remember seeing the Bluenose almost 30 years ago bringing a friend back home from college, if my memory is correct. When ever I see a world leader up close (President Clinton, Senator Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother are who I can remember off hand) I can feel the power that this person controls.
Very cool. Didn't I just read somewhere that it cost $300,000 to build (Oland Breweries $) for the launch of their Schooner Beer! Big difference in $$$. Great shot Louise ;)
Louis, I had no idea or expectations of making friends on this project either. What a happy surprise! Thank you for your warm comments on my house. I posted it yesterday because it was easier to post on Slava's thread if it was already on my calendar. I only know one way to post photos on these threads... don't mess with me - I'm dangerous with technology. hehe
What a wonderful photo you've managed to capture, Louise!! It needs to be on the front page of "Lunenburgs News" How wonderful they made such a generous donation for the restoration of Bluenose II! I love the way the Prime Minister's shirt matches the color of the background! ;-)
Good positioning Louise. He looks like a snappy dresser. I once shook hands with Bill Clinton at Auckland airport. He was no longer president and seemed to be reasonably free of security.
You totally could have scored a press pass by authoritatively flashing your camera and the 365.org name. And see...you got a press-worthy shot anyway. :)
Congrats on catching a great photo op and taking such a wonderful memorable photo...@Lone...I like the idea of the photo ID card...could get some of us out of a few scrapes...
Thanks for the birthday messages...yes...was keeping it under wraps, but it puts a smile on my face to hear from you. Maybe tomorrow will be "the cake" photo :-)
Its a really good shot .... (but have to say i have never heard of this chap ...Upps )

Don't worry, I'll always have time for 365. ;D Thanks for the critique on my mushroom photo. I just thought it was too cute NOT to put on 365. But your right. I'll always try to put my best photo on here. :D
I do like your idea about using different pictures for my profile picture. It would be a fun way to "flashback" to older pictures. Hmmmm ...... thinking here.
That is a lovely shot of the prime minister, mama.
Oh, and a little birdie mentioned it was your birthday ;)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST MOM WHO HAS AMAZING CREATIVITY AND PHOTOGRAPHIC TALENTS.......
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

Hope you have a great day amongst friends and loved ones.
Enjoy your lobster dinner.
great shot but I despise Harper. Most of his policies and views are in opposition to my own. I would prefer Jack Layton to be PM but thats probably not going to happen.
Very cool that's such a great capture! Louise would you believe my Mom worked with Mr. Harper when he was just starting out, who would have thought this is where he'd be.
Happy Birthday to you too! I hope you have a wonderful day! :)
First of all, ahem....
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday, dear (oh my, I'll never be able to top Heather!) sweet, talented, 365 friend...
Happy Birthday to yooooooooou!
Hope you have a wonderful celebration that includes lots of love (Ken!), great friends, and yummy food! :-)
Secondly, what a great opportunity for you to see and get such a great shot of the Prime Minister! So cool!!
I came here to wish you Happy Birthday, meant to do it before I went to bed last night but forgot! Hope you are having a good day and lots of cake!
Lovely pic of the PM
What a wonderful thing for our Bluenose to get $$$ for her restoration! Makes me happy!
And it looks like it is your birthday!! Louise, I really hope you have a wonderful week (we all deserve a week to celebrate - not a day!) of being feted and toasted and loved by all your friends!! You deserve it! Happy, happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day and a wonderful year ahead! Thanks for the lovely comments you leave on my photos. I really appreciate them!
Happy Birthday! Plus you got a good shot of the PM - usually the famous are surrounded by so many people that it's hard to capture them - but you did it!
I was sure you meant no political statement and if I saw him I surely would take a picture of him despite my views on his policies. This was a great photo op for sure
Way to grab the photo op! And Happy Birthday! Thanks for your thoughtful comments! Yes, Mick is helping me stay caught up while I mend. He does a wonderful job! As for the painting of Ringo, he says it's already finished in his head, he just needs to put paint to canvas! These are always long term projects, and he will return to school (he teaches high school English) the last week of August, so it may be awhile before I can show any pictures of that piece of work!
This could be in a newspaper!
May I be the first to wish you a happy birthday, my friend? I'll look forward to seeing how you document it this evening!
(I have to get TWO days worth of work done today since yesterday was a bust ...)
