Beach Day Deux by Weezilou

Beach Day Deux

In the midst of a heat wave, it only made sense to return to the beach. Ken said he could feel a noticeable change out in the water today, and the wave sets were breaking fast. The only news I've heard about the hurricane is that it might move up the opposite coast of Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy. Our friends made the right decision to drive up here immediately as the ferry from New Brunswick is being cancelled this weekend. I made another blueberry cake for dessert tomorrow night...it'll be perfect with a side of vanilla ice cream.

It makes up so quickly, it's a nice recipe to have on hand...

Summer Dessert

1 C fruit (blackberries, blueberries, apricots, plums, peeled peaches or nectarines)
1/4 C Butter
2/3 C Sugar
1/2 t Vanilla
1 Egg
1/4 t Salt
1 C Flour
1/2 t Baking Powder
1/2 t Baking Soda
1/2 C Buttermilk

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Butter and flour a 9-inch pie plate (or cake pan). Prepare the fruit (berries may be left whole; slice the apricots, plums or peaches) and set aside. Beat butter & sugar. Add vanilla, egg and salt. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda and mix well. Add buttermilk. Spoon into pie plate and top with fruit. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool a bit and enjoy!
What a beautiful beach shot! I like the couple out in the water in the distance. I miss the beach, in the city it's just not the same!

I'll be trying this with the abundance of fresh fruit just waiting in the fridge. Hope you are battening down the hatches. My daughter and s-i-l are visiting friends on the cape this week end. I hope they don't get washed away.

Rick was funny tonight, asked if I had posted a picture today, and proceeded to pose for me! I guess my project has grown on him!

Love the composition of YOUR shot - Ken's dapper profile with the couple in the water in the background. Beautifully shot!

September 3rd, 2010
Beautiful shot and that blueberry cake sounds awesome! :)
September 3rd, 2010
I've printed the recipe - for ADD - After the Diet's Done! The beach and the water look wonderful! I hope you feel little of the hurricane there. Keep safe and get the blueberries ready for the pancakes and coffee cake! Thanks again for your comments! You're so kind!
September 3rd, 2010
I love the focusing - still seeing the activity in the background. Very nice!
September 3rd, 2010
Great Ken picture in profile, nice composition with people in the background!
Thanks for sharing another recipe, I guess I can try this weekend :)
September 3rd, 2010
This is such a wonderful shot, I love the focus on Ken, and then the couple in the background just adds something special to it! And I must say....I really want to come to your house to have some of that blueberry cake...YUM! :)

This is a really nice shot of Ken...it illistrates your wonderful day perfectly!
September 3rd, 2010
great shot! i love how you set it up! it's the perfect summer capture!
September 3rd, 2010
I agree with TJ great shot of Ken. A really nice summer momento with the sun, beach and the summer fruit in the cake.
September 3rd, 2010
That's a great shot! Looks so like summer and relaxation. Now we need the matching one of you!
September 3rd, 2010
Wonderful beach shot of Ken and the fun happening at the beach. Really nice.
September 3rd, 2010
I love this shot of Ken so much! Even though he is wearing shades, you can tell he has a kind sort of twinkle in his eye. I love the people playing in the water off in the distance that are out of focus to, it feels very "people, what people?" - as if it is just the two of you on this beautiful day!

Thank you for your sweet comments always!
September 3rd, 2010
WOW what a great portrait shot! I love the interesting background too, it adds alot to the shot and sets the location even more.
September 3rd, 2010
Ah summer sun and fun! I hope you will not be hit to hard by the storm.
Will you stay in Lauterbrunnen and do some day trips from there or is it just a station on a trip through Europe?
September 3rd, 2010
Fab shot, love the angle. Such a good portrait :-)
Hope you'll miss the storm..
September 3rd, 2010
it is a wonderful portrait. It's so natural and genuine. I'm still practicing with people. We're difficult to capture!
September 3rd, 2010
Wonderful portrait!
September 3rd, 2010
I like the composition of Ken's profile. You did a nice job against the surf.
September 3rd, 2010
I think it hit our coastline last night--and we didn't get so much as a sprinkle of rain! Boo-hoo. 97 degrees today...I'm sooooo done with summer here.
September 3rd, 2010
Great shot Louise - I can feel the summery vibe :)
September 3rd, 2010
Great shot! I'd frame this one.
September 3rd, 2010
if it wasn't almost 900 miles i would go to the beach tomorrow!
September 3rd, 2010
Great shot of Ken! Looks like a beautiful day!
Thanks for the recipe. I shall make that this weekend!
September 3rd, 2010
Your framing is ***perfect**! And the bread recipe sounds quite yummy. I think I'll cut up some fresh, local peaches and give it a try :o)
September 3rd, 2010
great framing of your beloved's side view! thanks for sharing the recipe of your summer dessert!!!!i should try this!
September 3rd, 2010
Don't you live near the beach? cause a lot of your photo's are either of, or they talk about it. For real, I would DIE if I lived at or even near a seashore! Just cause that would be like THE dream come true! ah, hearing the waves crash constantly! It makes my heart burst just thinking about it!
September 3rd, 2010
Such a good picture Louise :)
September 3rd, 2010
Great photo. Looks very relaxing and fun. I can't wait to go to the beach!
September 3rd, 2010
This picture is just stunning. You and Ken are always so smiley, Awwww you guys are just the best :o)

Your photos make me smile :o)
September 3rd, 2010
Nice! Looks like fun was being had. Stay out of the water this weekend. The life guards have been busy here in NH and Mass pulling people out right and left. Don't they listen to the news?? Have a great weekend with your friends.
September 3rd, 2010
What a perfect day for the beach!!! I envy you for the weather out there, here at least it's not raining, but feels more like fall then like summer...Though I did manage to catch a few rays of sun on my lunchbreak, walking to the nearby store.
Enjoy the nice beach and weather while you can!!
September 3rd, 2010
nice portrait! i copied this recipe and will let you know when i try it! :)
September 3rd, 2010
I REALLLLLLLY love this!
September 3rd, 2010
nice portrait shot of Ken, the sea looks very inviting. thankyou for putting me in the picture of were you live
September 3rd, 2010
i like the candid feel to this. looks so lovely there!
September 3rd, 2010
Re: comment--well, I do hope it doesn't hit you too bad then, Louise. Most of the time here--I've found everyone gets all worked up for nothing. It's kind of weird, actually. I grew up in Northern Canada. You want to see some harsh weather? Now they had some harsh weather!
September 3rd, 2010
This looks so relaxing and that sounds gooood!
September 3rd, 2010
Louise, I have this fascination with all living things. That said, holding spiders is not on my top 10 list :o) Fortunately, I could take this picture without physical contact or we might have had another flower shot :o))))))))
September 3rd, 2010
I was wondering what kind of photo you would take after your comment yesterday that today would be another beach day for you. This is a perfect contrast to the "landscape" photo! perfect composition with Ken framing the right side, and then the out of focus couple in the center catching my attention. Love it.
September 3rd, 2010
I do love relaxing on a beach, love shot
September 3rd, 2010
re comment: I do have a lot of apps to work with on my phone. today's shot is of me holding a hose over our trampoline in the back yard. I used an app to create the blue color, and to blur vignette for framing. Hope Earl keeps his distance!!!
September 3rd, 2010
Fabulous composition!
September 3rd, 2010
hi again! In reply to your question, it is vintage, i got it from a car boot sale second hand so i am unsure how old it is!
September 3rd, 2010
I looove the composition!! Ken in the forefront and those people in the background makes for an awesome comp.!
September 3rd, 2010
great picture...great smile...a happy man!
September 4th, 2010
Lovely shot!! I love the composition and the light, breezy, relaxed feel. :)
September 4th, 2010
Great shot Louise! Thanks for the recipe...stay safe and I can just imagine being snuggled up in your place during a storm eating blueberry cake... Enjoy! I wonder how many storms that place has weathered over the years?
September 4th, 2010
I absolutely loveeeeeee the focus on this shot!!!!! Fantastic!

And thank you sooooo much for your comment last night! I survived day one! :D
September 4th, 2010
Louise, I love this picture so much. I bet you never forget this one. I have favorites of Kirby and I think you will feel the same way about this one of Ken as it is excellent! Well, by now, Mr. Earl must be making some rain or something for you. I hope it isn't too bad. He was kind to us in SC. How much longer do you get to stay? It will be hard for you to head back to SC. I can't even imagine as the differences are just too extreme! I guess SC would look real good when you think of the snow and cold but NS looks so good when you think of the crowds, the plastic atmosphere....ah, glad I don't have to choose!!
September 4th, 2010
Your photo is spectacular! The composition and DOF are fantastic!

I'm so glad it's cooled down here. Tomorrow highs in the 60's! What a change from the 90's the other day. A welcome change! I don't have air so it's hard to cook at home when it is that hot.

Your recipe is definitely on my "Must Try" list! Thanks so much for sharing it!
September 4th, 2010
this is really a great profile! stay safe.
September 4th, 2010
Great picture. I will try your recipe too
September 4th, 2010
What a beautiful shot! And a recipe. thank you.
You've got to put Mackinac Island on your "to visit" list. It really is an experience. Good luck to all of you.
September 4th, 2010

September 4th, 2010
Nice beach shot, enhanced by the presence of Ken. :)
September 4th, 2010
Wonderful perspective of this picture! I can see that Ken is enjoying himself!
September 4th, 2010
Nice shot - love the perspective. That recipe sounds delicious - I will have to give it a try.
