In the midst of a heat wave, it only made sense to return to the beach. Ken said he could feel a noticeable change out in the water today, and the wave sets were breaking fast. The only news I've heard about the hurricane is that it might move up the opposite coast of Nova Scotia on the Bay of Fundy. Our friends made the right decision to drive up here immediately as the ferry from New Brunswick is being cancelled this weekend. I made another blueberry cake for dessert tomorrow night...it'll be perfect with a side of vanilla ice cream.
It makes up so quickly, it's a nice recipe to have on hand...
Summer Dessert
1 C fruit (blackberries, blueberries, apricots, plums, peeled peaches or nectarines)
1/4 C Butter
2/3 C Sugar
1/2 t Vanilla
1 Egg
1/4 t Salt
1 C Flour
1/2 t Baking Powder
1/2 t Baking Soda
1/2 C Buttermilk
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Butter and flour a 9-inch pie plate (or cake pan). Prepare the fruit (berries may be left whole; slice the apricots, plums or peaches) and set aside. Beat butter & sugar. Add vanilla, egg and salt. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda and mix well. Add buttermilk. Spoon into pie plate and top with fruit. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool a bit and enjoy!
I'll be trying this with the abundance of fresh fruit just waiting in the fridge. Hope you are battening down the hatches. My daughter and s-i-l are visiting friends on the cape this week end. I hope they don't get washed away.
wow!! thanks for the recipe! my husband loves blueberries--i am going to pick some up and make this for him this weekend! and speaking of husbands, i love this shot of your ken!! it is wonderful. hoping earl stays away from you!!
love the cropping of this photo! the water looks like an amazing blue! i almost feel like i am there...ahh..i can dream :) i can just hear the seagulls and feel the ocean spray from your photo though, lovely! where did you find such an empty beach? everytime i go its way too crowded!
I've printed the recipe - for ADD - After the Diet's Done! The beach and the water look wonderful! I hope you feel little of the hurricane there. Keep safe and get the blueberries ready for the pancakes and coffee cake! Thanks again for your comments! You're so kind!
This is such a wonderful shot, I love the focus on Ken, and then the couple in the background just adds something special to it! And I must say....I really want to come to your house to have some of that blueberry cake...YUM! :)
I love this shot of Ken so much! Even though he is wearing shades, you can tell he has a kind sort of twinkle in his eye. I love the people playing in the water off in the distance that are out of focus to, it feels very "people, what people?" - as if it is just the two of you on this beautiful day!
Ah summer sun and fun! I hope you will not be hit to hard by the storm.
Will you stay in Lauterbrunnen and do some day trips from there or is it just a station on a trip through Europe?
I think it hit our coastline last night--and we didn't get so much as a sprinkle of rain! Boo-hoo. 97 degrees today...I'm sooooo done with summer here.
Don't you live near the beach? cause a lot of your photo's are either of, or they talk about it. For real, I would DIE if I lived at or even near a seashore! Just cause that would be like THE dream come true! ah, hearing the waves crash constantly! It makes my heart burst just thinking about it!
Nice! Looks like fun was being had. Stay out of the water this weekend. The life guards have been busy here in NH and Mass pulling people out right and left. Don't they listen to the news?? Have a great weekend with your friends.
What a perfect day for the beach!!! I envy you for the weather out there, here at least it's not raining, but feels more like fall then like summer...Though I did manage to catch a few rays of sun on my lunchbreak, walking to the nearby store.
Enjoy the nice beach and weather while you can!!
Re: comment--well, I do hope it doesn't hit you too bad then, Louise. Most of the time here--I've found everyone gets all worked up for nothing. It's kind of weird, actually. I grew up in Northern Canada. You want to see some harsh weather? Now they had some harsh weather!
Louise, I have this fascination with all living things. That said, holding spiders is not on my top 10 list :o) Fortunately, I could take this picture without physical contact or we might have had another flower shot :o))))))))
I was wondering what kind of photo you would take after your comment yesterday that today would be another beach day for you. This is a perfect contrast to the "landscape" photo! perfect composition with Ken framing the right side, and then the out of focus couple in the center catching my attention. Love it.
re comment: I do have a lot of apps to work with on my phone. today's shot is of me holding a hose over our trampoline in the back yard. I used an app to create the blue color, and to blur vignette for framing. Hope Earl keeps his distance!!!
Great shot Louise! Thanks for the recipe...stay safe and I can just imagine being snuggled up in your place during a storm eating blueberry cake... Enjoy! I wonder how many storms that place has weathered over the years?
Louise, I love this picture so much. I bet you never forget this one. I have favorites of Kirby and I think you will feel the same way about this one of Ken as it is excellent! Well, by now, Mr. Earl must be making some rain or something for you. I hope it isn't too bad. He was kind to us in SC. How much longer do you get to stay? It will be hard for you to head back to SC. I can't even imagine as the differences are just too extreme! I guess SC would look real good when you think of the snow and cold but NS looks so good when you think of the crowds, the plastic atmosphere....ah, glad I don't have to choose!!
Your photo is spectacular! The composition and DOF are fantastic!
I'm so glad it's cooled down here. Tomorrow highs in the 60's! What a change from the 90's the other day. A welcome change! I don't have air so it's hard to cook at home when it is that hot.
Your recipe is definitely on my "Must Try" list! Thanks so much for sharing it!
What a beautiful shot! And a recipe. thank you.
You've got to put Mackinac Island on your "to visit" list. It really is an experience. Good luck to all of you.
This is the photo I was talking about! :D
Love the composition of YOUR shot - Ken's dapper profile with the couple in the water in the background. Beautifully shot!
Thanks for sharing another recipe, I guess I can try this weekend :)
Thank you for your sweet comments always!
Will you stay in Lauterbrunnen and do some day trips from there or is it just a station on a trip through Europe?
Hope you'll miss the storm..
Thanks for the recipe. I shall make that this weekend!
Your photos make me smile :o)
Enjoy the nice beach and weather while you can!!
And thank you sooooo much for your comment last night! I survived day one! :D
