Just when I thought I'd collage photos of the Breakfast Club & the friends we stopped by to visit afterward, a band came marching down the hill and a whole new set of choices presented themselves! We'd been visiting friends outside of town and coming back into Lunenburg, I was mentally doing my layout for tomorrow's photo. Driving along Bluenose Drive by the waterfront, we paused as a band in blue uniforms, clergymen in flowing robes, Mounties in red surge, sailors carrying wreaths and a throng of people were parading down the road to the docks. Of course I bailed out of the car and told Ken I'd meet him "shortly" and blended into the crowd of people and other photographers. There had been a service at the church across the street from us and we'd come upon the "Procession of Wreaths". I watched as wreaths were passed to a waiting boat "for committal at sea". As Ken was parked and waiting, I didn't stay for the blessing of the fleet before the boat departed for the open ocean.
I could stop with that, but this is a perfect example of what will be missing when I return to California (albeit for a short while). My photos have all been of my daily life's experience, and suburban living in Fountain Valley is short on large group breakfasts, "dropping in on friends", friends also dropping by to see us, horse carriages passing by, white cats, parades, and music in the park across the street (all just today's events). I've yet to fully wrap my head around our departure as I'm not willing to relinquish a minute of our stay here. When the plane taxies down the runway, I can begin to think of coming events, but even then, just one day and one photo at a time.
...unless you'd care to share a couple more ("Full Sunday" or "Love Letters to Lunenburg") and a few notes I left there for some 365ers http://365daysintheyear.shutterfly.com/21
How cool is that you happened upon a parade, and a precession of wreaths no less. So do they do this yearly as a tribute to sailors lost at sea or was it for someone in paticular?
I meant to add that this is an annual event. It's usually held in August with a picnic over the course of a weekend, but it was moved to today's date, and was less elaborate.
This is such fabulous timing! I love the collage! It's so wonderful! It certainly looks like a lovely little parade too! Looks like fun! I hope you're doing well! :D
I can just imagine Ken as you jumped out of the car. Such a dedicated photographer. He knows you too well I'm sure, and has come to expect the unexpected when things are going on around you like this. Again you have thrilled us with more eventful photo memories of your beautiful area and its wonderful happenings. There is always something happening in you neck of the woods. It's a great collage. Now we are anticipating what you have in store for tomorrow's photo.
what a lovely memorial parade! i love all the red!! as i was reading your post about what you'll miss in so-cal, i wonder: do you think because you are always taking shots of the lovely little happenings and 'small pleasures' that you actually appreciate them more? certainly they're preserved on 'film' to enjoy, but even though i miss things with my eye in the viewfinder, i think i also treasure things more because i'm paying closer attention to them to capture them in a photo. does that make sense? where normally you might drive by the parade and enjoy it as you passed, because you wanted a photo you hopped out and were involved and noticing the details. just a thought. anyhoo--i love this collage and i love seeing life through your lens!!
When I saw the shot, I thought it was a parade in your honor! What a wonderful memorial for those lost souls. It sounds like you chose a wonderful place to spend some time and the life there is exactly what you wish for. Take a chunk of that life with you to share in CA. The collage is brilliant – love the color and the reason for the parade - a marvelous memorial.
Re cats - yes, you are 100% correct .. the cat owns the house and runs it and just let's us share it with him (that is as long as we feed Rusty and dutifully play with him and let him have 90% of the bed area to sleep on : )
This is such a wonderful collage! I just looked at all your other great photos as well. I loved that you got another shot of Dill in there. You'll have to set a skype account up so you can see Dill on a regular basis after you get back to CA. Maybe you already have one. We set one up so we could talk to friends and family.
Simply fantastic. I don't care what anyone says...I think the RCMP are the best dressed police force on the planet. I have alwasy admired the hat and red jackets....lovely photo.
This is the most charming area I have ever experienced. Just one fun event after another. Thanks for taking the time to photograph this and share it with us. Just the best.
How cool is this??? Super cool! I too love the red uniforms. This is a lovely collage that you have put together! Re lunenberg versus orange county: not to get too philosophical here... I believe that everyone creates their own reality. I think that since you expect these wonderful occasions and happenstances to occur in Lunenberg, they do! You are always at the right place at the right time for amazing photo opps! I'm afraid that since you don't believe those things will happen in California, they won't. What do you think???
What a super event, very colourful. I love the account of your life in Lunenburg & how you treasure it. But sounds like your winter will be full, & how time flies, especially with days as full as yours. Not long until next summer! : )
So I actually did not alter the color of the flower, I did add a texture to the background but the geranium is truly purple. When you come to visit your friend in Dover some day I will give you a cutting. :)
Hi Louise! I can only imagine the packing ahead of you.
We have not moved to a holiday home for the summer, so do not know the logistics of moving across the country as you do.
We know there will be many more pictures from your camera yet :D
We take our caravan away for 6 weeks over December and January to a northern NSW town named Bruswick Heads - I think I have mentioned it before - so laid back and unspoiled. so once we're packed, that's it, we take it with us.
It's amazing how little we really need when we are away. Yet we come home to a housefull of "stuff" & wonder why we've got it all :D
It's always good to come through that front door of home though!
It is surprising of all the events that have taken place in your second home town. It looks like it never ends and I'm sure there will be more activities once you are back home. definitely an interesting place to visit . I mentioned I have a friend close to St. John Nfld.. planing on a visit next year. Your collage is maybe the last of your days in Lunenburg and a double farewell.
A never-ending-event of events! i can see why you hate to leave. But you have next summer to look forward to. And we have your cA pictures to look forward to. Love your collage work.
Re: fish. I went to a small town North East of Seattle to see a play. I had some time and saw a bank with 4 of these fish on top all in different positons. No traveling show or theme. Just a local bank that wanted to have some fun with some art.
Love this! Always wonderful to see people honored and remembered. I think I tried to leave a comment on your blog before but I couldn't remember my shutterfly account information and forgot to go back and find it.
I know the time must be coming soon for you to head for CA. I can't imagine not seeing your photos from here, but then again I'm looking forward to seeing your photos from there as well.
I am in love with this collage :)
So many synchronicities are occurring at this time. I got an email today from an event that my husband and I participated in last year called 10 billion beats. Here is a link your family might enjoy http://www.google.com/m/url?client=safari&ei=SpCOTLDbBseutgfqqdWnAw&hl=en&oe=UTF-8&q=http://www.10billionbeats.com/intro.html&ved=0CBMQFjAB&usg=AFQjCNGy22hmhI-9tQqUiyFWcWja29FJIQ
We just took our drums to a local park by a river and drummed to help heal the world.
I really liked the Halifax drum show!!!
