Winding down with little more than a day to go, here's just one of the reasons I hate to leave. We humans know and understand the change that's about to take place, but what must Dill think as the furniture is removed from the back deck? What will he think on the day he sits by the back door and no one's there to invite him in? Separation breaks my heart. I can't help but wonder what will cross his mind. I have such a strong affinity for animals, I can't help but feel as I do. I know B&D come to check on the house after we're gone, and if they're followed in by a little fur-footed friend, I know they know where I keep the treats.
Thank you for welcoming my little friend into your hearts, too, this summer. Beyond myself, our Lunenburg circle has followed & appreciated the loving notes you've left. It's certainly been an exceptional time...
Cats have a weird way of stealing your heart before you realize they've done it. :) I've experienced it twice quite recently. More change, more adventure... for the both of you.
aww...my heart is breaking for poor little Dill....he'll be there next year, though right?? still, makes you want to sit down with the little guy and tell him exactly what's going on.... this makes me really sad....
Wonderful photo of a gorgeous kitty! I am sure Dill will miss you, as much as you are going to miss him! I have often wondered what goes through a cat's mind... He will be sitting and waiting, though, until you return next summer! They say cats don't get attached to people... I tend to strongly disagree with that statement. Kitties love being around humans and getting pet and loved! The months will fly by quickly, and you'll be back in Lunenburg before you know it! ;-) Enjoy the blueberry muffins and good luck with packing tomorrow! It's not the most pleasant part of a journey, but it needs to be done! Thank you, as always, for your sweet note! :-) Looking forward to seeing photos of your Chicago adventures! ;-)
May will be here before you know it…of course let’s not rush it too soon. You still have a trip, the Vatican and a grandbaby to meet before then. And there’s Christmas – my favorite holiday – and lots of good times between now and then. So Dill, faithful friend, will miss as you will miss him. But you’ll return soon to share your adventures again with him...and you'll probably bring some new treats too. Safe travels.
poor Dill, I can still remember when you posted a picture of him when you first arrived and how excited you were! Luckily you have great friends to keep Dill company and give him lots of love. I look forward to seeing the picture next spring of him on your back step awaiting your return.
oh, makes me tear up a bit. aren't animals harder to leave in a way, because you can't converse with them to know they understand? this is such a sweet shot of dill. i know when you come back it will be like you never left.
Awe!! I tear up thinking about it. Even though you reunite every year, it must be heart-breaking for the two of you. You know that you will be back, but I wonder what he thinks. Poor little guy. I hope you have a safe trip back home!
ahh lovely kitty pic.. my 2 syko and Nero have just been dropped off at the vet for their 'op', they cried all the way there and looked so sad at us when we left them there, but they get microchipped and clipped too.. sad.. but cheered me up when I saw this lovely picture!
Thanks for your comments on the syko picture... I understand your sadness at departing from the kitty....., but at least you can look at your fantastic pictures whilst you are away and they these cats are so wiley it will just a moment in cat time!
Oh my goodness, that is so sad! I didn't realize that Dill wasn't your full time cat. I can see how this is rather distressing for you to leave him. But I'd like to think that he retains the fact that you guys keep coming back. This is a beautiful parting shot of Dill!
Thanks for all the nice commiserating notes! Rick, Dill is about 9 years old and when he first came to my yard, I was calling him "Pearl" because I'd not met his folks yet. I fully expect to find him at my back door again next year...and the year after that...
Great photo of Dill - I think he's looking a bit pensive!
I'm sure he knows that something is a foot.
He's looking very wide-eyed here.
He does take good photo though :D
Thanks so much Louise!
It's surprising what cats can sense, but I think their sense of timing is off a bit...so maybe it will seem like you just went for a walk in the Park and will be right back...who am I kidding...
I'm crying, Louise.....Thank you, thank you. thank you for all your photos and beautiful text....will miss you in Lunenburg, but will be back with you when you get to California!
Oh, poor Dill. He is going to miss you, and I am sure you will miss him. This is a very nice shot of him... he almost looks like he suspects something is up. Whenever I am going out of town I am certain Kenya knows I'll be leaving soon.
oh, so sad to part - but I maybe he understands in his own way and accepts that you leave and come back in the same way as the changing of the seasons and be happy to see you when the summer comes back. BTW, the pastry-cook in my house, Ed, is my son (14) not my husband! My husband is a good cook too but his forte is meat dishes! My other son (11) makes a mean chocolate cake. I don't know what I did to be this lucky!
Aw...poor little Dill. I'm sure he will miss you (and you, him), but think how much he will look forward to your return next year. Can't wait to hear more Dill stories from you this Friday! :-)
What a fabulous portrait of Dill, looking very relaxed and regal. I'll miss him, but look forward to seeing him next year. Safe journey back. I look forward to your new adventures!
Awwwwwwwwwwww, so sad! Good to know that you will see him again though! I do wonder what he thinks is going on. My own furkid is such a velcro dog because of his background. I try and reassure him as much as I can that when I leave, I will be back. It seems that every night when I come home from work he scolds me a bit for being gone, all the while he is trying to hug me with his best doggie hug.
I know that Dill will miss you as much as you will miss him, and we will all certainly miss his photos!
The thing about cats is that their sense of time is poorly developed so usually "ought of sight, out of mind" Maybe not immediately but not too long after you say your good-byes. Then next Spring, he'll be happy to see you all over again!
Oh my gosh, Louise. This is so touching and so sad. It would truly break my heart to leave a dear feline friend, too. This is a beautiful, beautiful shot of Dill.
Dill is such a beautiful, regal looking cat. I will miss seeing him, too. We'll all look forward to next May. But, in the meantime, I'm anxious to see photos and read about your next adventure, and your next, and so on. :0) Give Dill a little hug from me.
I can only imagine how difficult it must be to leave him each summer...I have a hard time just leaving my kitties for a weeks vacation! I have truly enjoyed seeing your photos from your summer, and I look forward to your continued adventures as you return home.
The vision of Dill looking for some comfy deck furniture to rest on or waiting at your door breaks my heart too. I'm going to miss seeing his little face. By this time next year my 365 project will be over, but I'm going to insist on some how getting my Lunenburg education and Dill updates. :) Thanks so much for letting him into our lives Louise.
This quite insightful Louise. It's also something that I never really thought of before. Leaving my doggies back at home, I wonder if they notice that I'm not coming back...or if they even realise it.
I have much enjoyed seeing a bit into your life. I also loved see Dill, what a sweet cat. I'm sure he'll be left in good care, but I will miss his photos.
