The deed's been done. This cat came for dinner one night after we were away, made himself at home in our yard, and never left. Tracy, who looks after things in our absence, loves cats as much as we do, so she allowed him to integrate into the family. If she's willing to care for one more, I am, too, but ultimately he had to pay a price for his upkeep. He fell for the old Trap Trick, and off he went to the vet this morning. When we brought him home this afternoon, his eyes were still rolling, dizzy on drugs as I took his picture. Moments later I opened the cage and he rewarded me by taking off over the back wall. I was envisioning that image of money with little wings on it flying out of a wallet. If he ever speaks to us again, he's welcome back for dinner...
Still, this is a good venue to remind everyone to spay and neuter your pets (and strays)!
(Not loving this picture, but we were out and busy a long while today. And I seem to have a cat theme going at present...)
@all ...Update...24 hours after he scaled the wall, he's back for dinner, and I think he's probably here to stay!
Lol, they dont like it much hey?! Recued 2 while at uni and they hated us for a while after a visit to the vet... I bet he'll be back tho and good on you!
We told our new little ex-stray, Charlie, that he was going to be "tutored" and learn some Spanish... he came home saying, "Aye yi yi!!" We kept him inside for about 48 hours and then let him out again - he disappeared, too, but showed up again a day or so later and has been hanging out ever since! I'm sure the same will be true for your little guy!
I just love you for doing that! My own momma would feed all the strays on her back porch and then trap them and get them spayed and neutered. Some were quite feral. After awhile the clinic started doing them for free for her. I do hope he comes back to visit you for dinner!
I remember when little Snorretje had his little operation, I hated it but knew it was necessary (even just to save Tijgertje from having to live with an even wilder cat !!) . He was so dizzy afterwards, poor little guy. I guess it's a good sign this guy took off, at least he felt well enough to! He'll probably have some bad dreams the coming nights, but they do forget soon (I hope).
I'm sure he'll be coming around again once he's over the shock of the event. It's not supposed to be very painful,I'm told.
Louise you have a kind heart for doing this. he was just wondering what comes next and toke off but he'll be back soon.who wouldn't want to be around people that love him and take him in.
Perfect title! I'm sure he wasn't too pleased with you, but I'm sure he'll be coming around again soon. I'm glad you were able to trap him and get him fixed. We certainly don't need any more strays out there.
Even if he doesn't come back, you did a good thing. My neighbors caught one female stray (for her trip to the vet) but we haven't been able to catch her son - I posted a photo of him in July or Aug.
You're a cat lady Louise! They really love you! I heard that cats choose who they want to live with, following you and all your companions I believe it!
I love this "disgruntled kitty" photo; I won't be surprised if he returns. You are very kind to care for and neuter him..
I will often see feral cats in this area but they are hard to get near.
We did have a wonderful time seeing Hannah. It is such a powerful experience to watch our children grow------I'm sure that you are experiencing it again as Ashley enters motherhood! I am looking forward to the first baby photo!
What a pretty fellow. I hope he returns and doesn't hold it against you for too long. You've done a good deed regardless! :) All the cats I've ever had came and found me this way. (Except the one who was a kitten of a stray - close enough...) You are very lucky. All these beautiful cats are making me wish another one would come find me soon. ;)
He seems to be saying "drop in for dinner and they cut off your b...!" Haha! I've seen this look many times - I'm sure you're already forgiven and he'll be back for some snuggles!
Little black cats keep popping up everywhere these days ... (o; .. well done to you all .. it was a good deed well done & hopefully he will be back soon.... but i think i would have run in his shoes ... ooocchhh!! .. lol
Poor baby. Oh, well, I'm sure he will be back. He knew a good thing when he found it! I have been told that black male cats are the hardest to place from shelters. Then just black cats in general. Why?? They are so beautiful!
Ya, what is that about black cats? I've also heard that they're difficult to place. Does racism actually extend that far? Yikes. I love black....black cats, dogs, horses, people, clothes....even dark dramas!
He's a lucky boy, even if he doesn't get that yet. He will after the hurt wears off. Good for you two responsible litter mates.
I predict he will be back. I am sure you have delightful dinners for your feline guests. Their is a price to pay to stay and he will soon know it was for the best!! Nice of you to help keep the population of strays in line. So what name have you given him?
@seattle Last summer Tracy named him "Mango", but I'm not at all taken with the title. However, as she's been with him more than I have, who am I to change it... So, meet "Mango"...
oh, he is a handsome lad - I'm sure he's just Making A Point by taking off for a while and will be back very soon. Mm, he doesn't look like a Mango, I have to agree there. He looks too regal and aloof (in a good way!).
oh he looks just like my cat JJ! i'm sure he was a little "offended" by what you have done to him (hahaha) but i'm sure he will see the benefits of it and will be back soon :)
He looks like a panther, he's very beautiful. I hope your tabby is okay. The little gatecrasher kitten who lives near my family home keeps being attacked by other cats too. It's very sad.
So glad Mango came 'home'...that happened to a cat who decided to live with us...same thing...but now everything is going to be O.K. oh, and thanks for your comment on my scary self...
@isisweiss I already had one http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-04-28 when this one showed up! I keep being adopted, but who doesn't love a cute black cat?! (This one looks cuter when he's not giving me the Stink Eye!)
Good for you, Louise! Rick has imposed a cat moratorium at our house (he and Nique have both developed minor allergies) or I'd adopt every stray that came my way! And, have them neutered!
The expression on his face is priceless!! I can't stop laughing!! He can only be thankful that you 'adopted' him! Most of the cats I've had were all strays - they are so cute and loving, I just can't resist them! :-)
oops! it's pinktornado39 here & in the above comment ... didn't realize redgamer was still signed in. hmmm. what can i do under his name muhaaaaaahaaaa ...

Great capture, once again Louise. Love those eyes!
@cglist - hahahahahaha..."Aye yi yi!!"....hahahahaha.
(love that face)
Good to see that he returned - he knows a good life when he sees it.
Louise you have a heart of gold :D
