On a day that threatened rain, we headed north to Naples where we boarded a second train to the town of Caserta. Our destination was a 1200-room palace that was built to rival Versailles. We set out to first view the gardens, actually called a “park” as the grounds were so expansive, but were turned back as thunder rolled. I wasn’t at all disappointed to have lots of time to walk through a segment of the palace which was amazing to see. I was delighted that photos were allowed, though the lighting was daunting. I wish I’d thought to count the number of rooms we walked through down even one corridor; they certainly gave us our money’s worth of viewing pleasure. The painted ceilings, the immense chandeliers, the gilded wood, the fabric-covered walls, the ornate marble floors, (different in every room), furniture from the 1700s, and carved detail everywhere! Just “the little” we saw of the whole was as though we’d gone to a museum. The rain poured all the while we were inside, but let up as we headed home after dark. Again, we walked for hours, but I’m keeping up the pace set by our friends. At this rate, we’re not going to miss much!
Absolutely stunning, and one can only imagine the beautiy of its entire interior. Can only imagine the history that accompanies this magnificent piece of architecture.
Oh, this is so cool! I like your choice to photograph the doorways and show us just how BIG this place was! Really gorgeous place. Sounds like you're having a blast! Looking forward to more pics soon! ;-)
