Having been out most days and walking everywhere, we decided to stay in and each do as we pleased. I caught up, writing off-line, and went to the Internet Café to upload, but there was no access. Barring that, we used our last afternoon to see some of the local sights and walked along the bluffs across the bay from Naples. Except for a couple rainy evenings, most of our weather has been quite pleasant, making the stay here in Vico just beautiful. Ken and I stopped at the grocery on our way home, guessing at the purchases we made…an odd sensation not to really know what we were choosing to buy. You have to be an adventuresome eater when you travel; it’s not like home! Our first week is winding down and tomorrow we’ll drag our suitcases to the train station in the morning for the ride to Rome… The adventure continues!
I just had a chance to look through your travel photos. Thank you for taking me trraveling - if it were not for you with your perfect photos and precise detailed descriptions I would not have a vacation.
I am enjoying your journal entries and photographs so much. John and I loved our time in Sorrento and Capri (although I did get sea sick on the boat to the isle) I wish I had had a good camera back then but my memories will have to suffice. Can't wait to see what Rome holds for you!
If Chimom gets to come, then I get to come, too!!! Wow, oh, wow! This is just such an inviting view. Wonderful photo. :-)
RE: the Italian language. I remember very little from my time there in college, other than I was fascinated by it and would have studied in school had it been offered. We had a funny thing happen to us, while there, though, regarding our pronunciation of the few words we were learning. We were living in Sori along the Ligurian coast (and next to the French border), and had gone to Genoa for the day. We ordered lunch (in Italian) in an outdoor cafe and after the waiter walked away, the people at the next table began to talk to us in French. We shook our heads and indicated that we didn't understand them. One of them then said "Do you speak English?". We said with relief, "Yes!" and they asked if we were American? Again we said yes, and began babbling that we had only been learning the Italian language during our stay in Sori. They laughed and said, "Do you realize that you're speaking Italian with French accents?" Ha! Who knew we were being so cosmopolitan?
This is a beautiful shot to commemorate your last day. It must be so exciting to travel week by week & discover new things every day. I can't wait to see Rome through your eyes!
Wow, I've missd your last several uploads. Not sure where I was - not Italy... that's for sure. Ha! Your pictures are beautiful and I'm tired just reading how much you're walking. Great cardio to go to Europe! Sounds like an adventure just going to the grocery store. Glad you're having a wonderful time. Hugs to you!
I love "traveling along" with you, Louise!!! I'm glad you took a day to relax...I know that is much needed when you're on "sightseeing overload"! It helps you to appreciate the adventures ahead a little more when you are rested, and not trying to absorb so much in so little time.
Louise, thanks for your lovely note, and don't beat yourself up for not getting back with everyone. You do a TREMENDOUS job, of commenting on everyone else's photos all the time.......please just enjoy your vacation now.....everyone knows you care very much about their photos, but just please take this special time to enjoy Italy!!! We're enjoying your photos soooo much and don't need reciprocation.
If Chimom and Sue are coming then I am DEFINITELY coming too! haha. LOVELY lovely view. makes my stomach a little topsy-turvy thinking of standing on the edge of that but WOW! I love that you are traveling for a long enough time that you can take time to do whatever. That is the thing I hate about short trips is you are often rushed and don't have the chance to just BE. Glad to hear you are being adventurous, it makes the trip all the more special IMHO.
Lovely shot...and I now need to go back and catch up on what you have been up to! It is my dream to go to Italy one day. Was supposed to go about 5 years ago but those plans fell through....know it must be so beautiful...looking forward to your Roman adventure next.
What a gorgeous view, Louise! I have to come back and catch up with your adventures! Your holiday sounds like a dream! I am sure that you are enjoying every minute of it and we are all so lucky to have your photos and your stories! :-)
wow..that house on the hill is soo incredible!! so great to see italy through your eyes! definitely solidifies it on my list of places i must go someday....
this is another beautiful view!! I love traveling to Italy this way, I think for me it´s the perfect way to go on vacation - I get to still care for and be with my dear animals, and still see all the sights!!
Thank you Louise, for sharing this.
...... like the day I finish high school. :)

We would love to go back to that area.
Bernie & I are enjoying your travel diary immensely.
