Though clouds lingered on the horizon, blocking a brilliant sunrise, when I looked over my shoulder, the light made the clouds behind me peach and pink. We were up and on the beach by 6:30 with a half dozen others and lingered there 3 hours, joined by our daughter & Ashton.
For the solitariness of this tree, there was a lot to say about it. At the outset, it was roped off as it was the resting place of a Monk Seal, an endangered species. Later, the ropes were taken down and I spoke with the man doing that to learn more. (If she returns, the ropes go back up.) Also, if you look closely, there are two leis hanging from the tree. Legend says if you throw a lei into the ocean, you'll return to Hawaii again one day. This interpretation was a touch that lead me to contemplate the person who left it there and what the visit must have been like.
I took hundreds of photos...two different green lizards, the ubiquitous roosters that are "just birds" living on the island, a tropical lagoon (some with Ken & our grandson), and an area where literally hundreds of coconuts had fallen and were being cleared away. I had an interesting talk with the men doing that. I'm so happy to have broader horizons to photograph; this is a beautiful island!
PS...my time stamp was 2 hours off as I didn't change it until later in the day. It was 7:04 AM when I took this.
A lovely shot very peaceful location Louise , would have loved to have seen the full tree in your image , but this is very nice and as I set of to drive to Liverpool this morning I will be dreaming of that monk seal resting under that old tree
Such a beautiful scenic capture with the silhouette of the tree. Your story of the day makes me feel like I was there, thank you for sharing. I also love the picture of all the coconuts on the beach.
