I suppose we photographers sometimes come off as rather comical to those who watch us... With camera at hand, I see a reflection I'd never noticed in this fashion before... "Excuse me a moment... I need to get this..." Tweak it...change it...soften it...and it might convey that I was three sheets to the wind...
(haha,,,now that I live in a boating community, I've learned...and will share the derivation of that phrase: "three sheets to the wind", meaning
to be explicitly drunk; inebriated
origin: sheets actually refer to the ropes that are used to secure a ship's sail. If the 3 ropes used were loose in the wind, the sail would flop around, causing the ship to wobble around, much like a drunk.
(doesn't "sheets" sound like they should refer to "the sails"?!)
Great shot, and your narrative is perfect. And I need that drink right now. My head is bursting.... Our own two dogs and two little canine friends of theirs whom we are "babysitting" for a couple of hours. Forget doggie "play dates" unless they are at the dog park.
Mmmmm.....that wine looks so good right now!! We used to joke that architects and designers are the only people who walk into a space and looks at the ceiling and the baseboards, and now, I look at reflections, and small mundane details that might make an interesting photograph!
I am always finding "visions" that interrupt a conversation or dinner. This one was worth the interruption! This is a tidbit I had learned in college during my too much to drink days! Nice to hear the story again. I do agree that when I first heard it I was thinking sails!
That's very interesting Louise, I have long known the phrase but always thought 'sheets' referred to sails. Love the shot. I think one of the things I enjoy most on the project is that we're all somewhat obsessed with odd things like reflections, perspectives, pov, dof, etc, etc. I think I'm beyond being embarrassed now, it's the shot that matters.
I can't imagine you 'pickled' Louise, or maybe I can. Great shot. My sister who's house I've been at and her husband won a planning victory. They were due to have a giant wind turbine on the hill at the back of their property. They offered not to oppose it if it were smaller but it was not taken up. They are a very green couple as the solar panels show. When they won the action group had a celebratory bottle of champagne or more. I could only have one glass as I was driving the next day. Socks!
@ceilidh Your comment made me smile, I drink socially and with caution...as it fun to take in the conversations of our friends who might not have been as careful! And my photos don't turn out well if I drink too much! (Pictures like the one above are all for show ;)
