"We Remember" ... by Weezilou

"We Remember" ...

I was quite moved by the outpouring of patriotism amongst Canadians in the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day. The Lunenburg ceremony was held at the memorial site in the park across the street so I stood with friends and remembered those no longer with us.

In the afternoon, Linda @linah drove up on an errand and it was a delight to meet her for the first time. We gained entrance to some wonderful old buildings to photograph the beauty & decay of a bygone era. Before going home we stopped to photograph the memorial wreaths, and of my pictures, this is the one that riveted my attention. The wreath is for the RCMP (Mounted Policemen/Mounties) who were recently ambushed and gunned down. Our children shouldn't have to learn about this senseless violence, and yet it's the childish lettering that has the strongest, poignant impact when we look to one another for comfort.
this is a lovely image- Love the childs picture..

A great tribute, and unfortunately our children today are learning too much about the world's senseless violence

You are so right. The innocence of childhood in collision with the reality of our world makes a poignant image. Wouldn't it be wonderful not to have to commemorate such events?

I always love patriotism. We have too little of it.

@danette Interesting, I think, that we all came together after 9/11...and after the bombing in Boston...and then memory fades. This year in Canada, the violence came across the border, and everywhere it's like I remember the US community in 2001... It's a hard lesson that reminds people what they want most in life!

there are no winners in wars, but there are losers. sadly it's the children who lose the most, starting with their innocence. this is a lovely and a powerful image.

Oh Louise, I love this. It's hard when children have to face such events. I always feel they should be able to hold onto their innocence, but then I remember learning about Belsen when I was young. The only difference was we didn't have news 24/7

Beautiful composition Louise. It is a nice learning experience to go out together taking photos, and seeing someone else's perspective. This is really nice!
