(On this December 23rd evening, I have some time to go back through photos I didn't have time to post earlier...)
We have a lot in NS where we originally thought we'd build before finding the house of our dreams in town. In Sept 2003, Hurricane Juan came ashore and leveled all the old-growth trees. While it broke our hearts at the time, it wasn't long before the place began to look like a little Christmas-tree farm! We now have trees of many heights, so we went there and cut down 4 trees to decorate in our house for the Thanksgiving party.
On this date, a neighbour said she wanted a large tree, so we borrowed a neighbour's truck and took her out to select her tree. Meanwhile I found trees for two other neighbours and a "friend-of-a-friend" asked if they could cut down a large tree. We had such fun making the trees available, we posted a note at the driveway so our friends could find the right lot.
Fast forward to California where this year, for the first time in forty years, we bought a cut tree at Home Depot instead of cutting it at a tree farm. While it was half the price of the one we could cut down ourselves, let me tell you it was painful to shell out $50 when we've cornered the market on trees...far far away...
Great story and pic, Louise. We always cut our tree at a tree farm until a couple of years ago. Now we just select a cut one at a tree farm lot. However, I think this may be our last year for a live tree. It's just getting too hard to get it in the house (too big for us to carry), and a real job, at our age, to get set up and lights on. May change our minds, but think we'll go with a nice full artificial tree next year. Merry Christmas, Louise and Ken.
