Ask Me How Willingly I'll Leave This Gorgeous Town ...
It was rhetorical...the answer is clear...
Having been delighted with the rising moon yesterday, I decided to check the time it would come up, and we were there, waiting, as it peeked through the trees. Happily, I did see another photographer, but only briefly. Was this not worth freezing fingers and cold temperatures for such an opportunity? (NEXT year I'm going to pay more attention to these moon rises! This was actually very exciting!) When we left this spot, we went to the park to photograph the decorated trees. but the moon was overlapped by the bare trees and didn't have much impact. However, for the sheer joy of "Appreciation", it was wonderful to be out taking photographs.
Afterward, we went to the local production of The Wizard of Oz, and it was outstanding! Once again, I'm blown away by the talent that blooms up here!
So how willingly will we leave? With heavy hearts, salved only by the knowledge that we're off to see our girls and grandkids. No complaints at all regarding that!.
it is exciting to wait for the moon to rise; same with the anticipation of that sun peeking out and spewing its first rays. over the last four years, i've been more and more in awe of the moon. the first time i went to see the supermoon in 2011, i almost cried. it was like watching God do such simple miracles that almost everyone else takes for granted. any chance i get to watch it, i grab it and the image grabs me. the same way each time. i would never tire of it. even in the cold!
you photographed this rather well. i love all the details in it. you captured an everyday miracle and it's not everyday and not every man (or woman) get to have the privilege of so doing.
FAV'd immediately! This is spectacular...what an awesome moon! I too have been watching the calendar to see when the full moon will take place and it's this weekend, Saturday. Hopefully I can capture the miracle of God here in No. Dakota!
@summerfield I'm SO in tune with what you've written Vikki! Even though I know Ken was freezing (and hadn't worn boots) he was just as in awe as I was, exclaiming over every capture and the increasing elevation as the moon crept past the treeline and upward. Noting on several occasions lately, capturing amazing weather phenomenon, that there were no other photographers out capturing the event, it was Ken, tonight, who pointed out one other person who had stopped for a photo. I recently saw that another 365 photographer commented she'd never paid so much attention to weather as she had since joining this site. If that's what it takes to lock us in on this amazing miracle, then we're members of the Church of Heavenly Appreciation...and that's not all bad!
(I was just looking at your perfume photo when I saw I had a comment and found you here!)
@merteskid You'll see we're all of one mind as I just responded to Vikki! I'm attending two consecutive musical events tomorrow evening, so I won't be out for the moon-rise, but I'm satisfied that I got one I could love this evening! Thanks, Jo, and I know you'll get a wonderful one as well!
@summerfield Vikki and Weezi, both of you are so spot on about the awe and beauty of moonrise! I feel the same way about sunrise and sunset. Can't get enough of them.
Weezi, I've been wondering how "willingly" you are going to leave your lovely surroundings. I know the cold will certainly help with the departure. I'm glad to know you'll make stops to see grandkids along the way. Wave big when you're in Chicagoland! I'll wave back. ;)
This is a fantastic capture. I'm glad you and Ken were able to enjoy it together despite the cold.
What a fabulous capture Louise! It's going y0o be so hard for you to leave this beautiful place. At least it will be warmer and you will be seeing your family - bonus!
Stunning Louise. I started following you just before you came here and I have loved every shot you posted. They tell of a special place and talented people. This is one brilliant shot I'll remember, along with the golden retrievers, raccoons, the opera singers, I'd better stop or I'll be listing everything. It will be nice for you to see family again! Safe journey when you go!
@ceilidh Oh Magaret! Your summation here makes my eyes well up! I want so badly to give you the biggest hug! You've been absolutely faithful and dear to my photos with comments when I've failed you and so many others. Back in California, I will have much more time to be attentive and a better viewer and friend. You know you are always welcome here... I had the pleasure this summer of seeing 3 members of 365 here. What fun it would be to host a retreat!
I wanted to say thanks, but had better run...I read that we're having a morning moon rise...in about 10 minutes! So ♥ and will be back soon!
@ceilidh last night on the moonrise chart I thought I saw something about a morning moonrise...just checked again and it's at 5:10 tonight...time enough to try one last time! Whew!

I seldom write group notes of appreciation, but I was overwhelmed this morning to find so many of you had come by and with such kind words. Much of what we love here is the "community"...the people...in this exquisite, gentle setting. PLEASE, if you find your way here, let me know...we'd love to share this! Thank you again for coming by and Merry ♥ Christmas! My days are about to go into high gear as we leave and visit, and I know everyone's busy, too, so didn't want to leave without sharing the Good Wishes!
Fantastic moon capture - worth freezing for! I've always been a moon follower, but unfortunately the past 3 moths have always been overcast - and we're now into summer here! Fav
Wow what a gorgeous scene with the red houses and that bright yellow moon! It sure is worth getting cold to watch the moon rise..............such a beautiful sight!
Safe travels Louise.
Absolutely gorgeous Louise! And well worth the effort... I will miss these picturesque shots of yours over the winter - but then again, I look forward to your warm California shots to fill the gap as I hunker through the Northeast winter you were wise enough to escape! :-)
What a gorgeous night scene of Lunenburg! You must be very happy with this capture. I missed going to that vantage point when I was there - need to come back! Enjoy your visit with family and safe travels back. No worries about the short email - I know you're a busy lady! Happy holidays to you, Ken and family. Thank you (to both you and Ken) for being such wonderful hosts (and friends) to us this past summer. We will return and I'll think about you on Christmas morning when I'm enjoying the yummy Cinnabons! ;)
Oh wow, what a wonderful capture Louise! I was driving home from work on a dirt road through the woods. It winds and goes around a few lakes - the moon kept peeping out but I only saw one possible good shot. I only had my cell phone so it wasn't worth climbing through the woods to get down to the lake! I am jealous :) fav by the way!
Love the moon and the beautiful view on Lunenburg . I`ve visit Lunenburg yesterday by Google Maps and drive around this city. Did n`t see that nice moon above it . Fav. If you are going now: have a nice and save trip. @Weezilou . We have a very moderate climate . Some times ice and snow but not for a long time
What a picture-perfect scene with the moon and the lights on the boats and the lovely colored homes on the hillside. I would think it would be very difficult to bid this town farewell. Were it not for family, something tells me you'd be staying to see what the New Year looks like here.
What a fabulous capture! Simply fantastic! Definitely worth the cold fingers. And congrats on PP - well deserved!
I haven't read all the comments above ... but your comment about the moon rise/set times reminded me of TPE. In case you haven't found The Photographer's Ephemeris .... http://photoephemeris.com/
