Making the Most ... of the California Coast

We met friends for Happy Hour at one of our favorite restaurants in Huntington Beach. The winds blew in from the desert yesterday, pushing up the temperature to almost 90 degrees. When that happens, the air clears, and Catalina Island is etched into the sunset. I'm not sure anyone noticed I'd left the table to take some photos as the sun went down. Just look at what they missed!
Totally envious of the sun and warmth. This is a wonderful shot of what looks like a gorgeous place to sit,eat and watch the sun go down

John's sister and family lived in Huntington Beach for most of their marriage. we visited them several times during my Spring Break. The weather was always perfect. We had delicious strawberries and lovely walks along the beach. Your picture brings back many wonderful memories.

A beautiful view on this nice beach, the great pier and an awesome wonderful California sunset. Fav.

Dang Louise. This is great. This is what I meant by the other photo. It's nice to have the framing on both sides with the palms. Just gives the overall shot more structure dontcha think? At first I thought it would be better without the rail at the bottom right, but changed my mind. Any crop would cut the people in the foreground, and a clone would lose that red light reflection. So, I actually think that's perfect. You've captured a perfectly exposed sunset with tons of narrative. Well done.

So glad you got up from the table and took photos at the perfect time!! They probably thought you were spending an awful lot of time at the restroom!! ;-)) Love the framing of the palm trees and the sun rays on the right! A sunset not to be missed, and the food will still be at the table!

Fabulous light and what a fabulous scene! What are the white "structures" on the beach? Goalposts of some kind?

@kwiksilver Thanks for the note, Gillian. Those are the nets for sand Volley Ball games. There are quite a few on either side of the pier and they're typically filled during the day! Those are some buff and bronzed people who can play out there all afternoon!

@panthora I can get food "anywhere, anytime"... But that sunset left town for the night about 5:30. Carpe Diem!

I like the inviting appeal to this stretch of beach
