Low Key Me by Weezilou

Low Key Me

Short on photos for the day (which is not typically the case!) I thought to try the technique challenge...one I seldom use. Give that, I have *absolutely no idea* if this is what we're talking about! I set the camera on "Low Key" and switched on the timer...TWO things I seldom do! Was going to photograph the cat in the window, but she hopped down after one poorly composed attempt...

I'm happy to keep after this one as I'd like to do better and loved the examples given. Any helpful suggestions welcome...(as in, "What keeps low key from becoming a silhouette regarding the placement of the light?")

Thanks in advance to the few people you have a minute to spare ♥
A beautiful photo of you . It`s very difficult to advise you as my vocabulary is to poor for it. But why you need this? You did great by this one . By any person on it. It still is a Fav. capture

Louise, very good questions. I am back in Internet range today and will do some digging for explanations, since I have the same questions. I'll tag you in the post when I have more info. To me, the hint of colors and features are the main difference. This is a wonderful shot.

Lovely pensive selfie. But not low-key, methinks. But then what do I know! LOL As far as I can work out, low key is dark background and only bits of object in light. Sigh ;)

@kwiksilver I asked for some assistance, but I haven't gotten any yet. I just used the "low key" setting on my camera(s)...

Don't know the difference between low key and a silhouette but I like this shot

Lovely shot of you, Louise, and it does qualify for low key, but the fact that you can see the light source from the window is distracting. Low key portrait lighting makes me think of Vermeer, and the focus is usually on the model, and not the source of light. I have not tried this technique, so I am interested in exploring further, and I found this pretty simple and useful tutorial explaining how to achieve it. http://www.studioonashoestring.com/30/low-key-portrait-lighting-tutorial/ I hope it helps.
