I came away with the same befuddlement as many who attempted this! First problem... nothing in Lunenburg moves fast enough to pan before the shutter closes!
I was doing my aqua therapy (known by it's more common name as Exercise-in-Water) and, when we had the pool to ourselves, I asked Ken to swim back and forth. I was still working on "getting it right" when, exhausted, he called for a time out!
This surely captures the sense of movement, but it's not panning (though I was trying for that). I also had him drive back and forth past me with the car, and those photos were "interesting", but I opted to use this as "It's Not a Car"...
Tomorrow, "Nature"! Yea! No shortage of "Nature" up here!
my hat's off to ken. but on the one hand, he's getting a lot of exercise! i like ho it turned out, looks like brush strokes. hard to do it, too with a point and shoot as you either get all blurry or a still action.
Yeah, I am sooo looking forward to Nature for tomorrow! You definitely have captured Motion here, but I understand how frustrated you were. Today I went down to my favorite beach hoping for something moving, and they were all mesmerized by the sunset, and NOT moving at all! It was like a Zen monastery down there with everybody meditating on the setting sun....tried to catch a few bicycles or runners to no avail!
@panthora LOVE your comments! That's hysterical! The only trouble with a "Nature" theme for us is "which way to point the camera"! Pity the poor folks in the big cities! On the other hand, they probably caught a car whizzing by!
Loved the story behind trying to catch a movement shot by panning...I can so relate to your frustration! I think panning is overated and movemnt shots are the best captures!
I like this enough to fav! There is so much good about it - the water movement and colour, the whole "feel" of motion, plus of course Ken's willingness to help out :) I really think it's great!
