Quite different from the Cape Breton music of yesterday, this group, Constantinople, seeks inspiration from sources that include their world journeys, as well as historical, cultural and music that comes from the heart. In looking on Youtube for some of their music, I had to look under the names of the musicians here, as, "...true to its nature, the group's composition is ever-changing as members seek new discoveries and collaborations." These musicians spent a week teaching (Master Classes) and performing (at local schools & the nursing home) before this final performance.
If you're curious about the instruments (as I was!), they are the kanun, setar, and theorbo. On this occasion I thought it might be a distinctly Middle Eastern sound, but it was more melodic and often nearly classical. (I have no musical training, but, speaking for myself, I found it very pleasant to listen to.)
