“For it is good to be a child sometimes, and never better than at Christmas..."
Our friend, David, is the very essence of The Spirit of Christmas, 365 days a year. Can you tell I was pretty delighted to run into him on this festive afternoon?
It's been an amazing weekend! Lunenburg and Mahone Bay throw quite a party as Christmas gets underway!
@kevin365 He's a huge bear of a man, and packs quite a hug! In the first couple photos I was hardly visible! (I'm 5'6" if you'd care to hazard a guess as to how tall he is!)
What a lovely picture. You both look like you are having so much fun. Enjoy the rest of your Christmas season. I'm sure there will be many more parties to come.
This is lovely Louise! Sorry I've been absent, in transit for two weeks it seems like... he is the embodiment of Christmas! And aptly tagged for the giants theme ;)

You may wonder why I've brought you back to this page, but just before noon today we were contacted and told that David and his wife Heather were on a icy road heading toward Halifax when they had a head-on collision with a truck. Neither survived. The two were so involved in community, he the head of Palliative care for all of Lunenburg Cty,, and town loved this couple so much, the flags are at half mast. I was so happy to have run into Dave and to have this picture as a piece of what l love in Lunenburg. His wife had dropped him off, so we exchanged a few words before she left.
This news came as we were leaving to celebrate the life of a long-time friend of our daughter who died suddenly & unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm at 47.
Turn to someone you love and express those feelings aloud to them. These sudden turn of events are a reminder to count your blessings (as so many of you do) and be the photo historian in every group you attend. You'll be called upon for those someday and they'll be treasures to a family who's lost a loved one. I look at your names and faces here, and we've all spent so much time together, you may know my story & pictures better than some local friends here who don't follow 365. I felt a great need tonight to share this, and another photo of Dave on the night his group sang Happy Birthday to me: https://365project.org/Weezilou/so-many-choices/2015-08-19
oh my goodness! i'm sorry to hear this. as horrible an end to some precious lives, we should be consoled by the fact that they didn't suffer much. still, what a stunning loss for lunenburg. i'm sure you're devastated, my friend. death's been all around lately, it makes me think. cheers, my lady, you are so blessed! ♥
@Weezilou Oh my, Louise, and just like that the world stops. I am so sorry for your loss and for all who knew this lovely couple. You are right. We must hug our loved ones so as not to feel so alone.
@summerfield Thank you Vikki...I wasn't aware you were suffering losses, too. Within our family circle since Nov, I've lost track of the numbers. I wanted to let you all know how much I care for you and your friendship. Allison @allie912 you said it so perfectly...the world just stops. I probably shouldn't have said anything, but this cut deep, and you had all left such happy notes only so recently. You, Allie, are a people photographer, and if ever someone needs photos, you'll have them. I was glad I did for today's gathering, and tonight I'm looking for mine of David & Heather to send to their family. Thank you both.
OMG...this is one of the saddest entries I've read. And on a day I spent with two close friends and Jim going to a wake for one of our friends who died from complications of cancer. She was my first doctoral student, and we had been friends for almost 30 years. The wake brought together many of us who had not seen each other in years -- all very sad for the occasion but knowing it would have made Sue happy to think she had brought us together to share happy memories and learn about different aspects of her life. I feel for you, this kind of loss -- even if not unexpected -- is always still a shock and leaves such a hole. Hugs to you.
Oh Louise what sad news and such a shock for you and all their many friends in Lunenburg. They will both be missed so much I am sure. He looks such a huge happy man who gave so much to everyone. Such a sad time at the moment with news from others of their losses of friends and family. Since Barb' s cancer scare in the last couple of years I have said we must make the most of every day and try to live life to the full. We never know what's round the corner do we? Much love dear friend xxx
@taffy big hugs to you Taffy as I know how hard yesterday must have been. Isn't it strange how often we only meet up with some friends and family at a funeral. Why do we leave it to the sad times to get together? That's life I suppose. Lots of love from across the pond.
What tragic news Louise and such loss to your community. Words seem so inadequate at times like this. My thoughts are with you during this trying time. Take care xx
This is just such sad news to hear!!! I am so sorry for your immense loss Louise. Although I obviously did not know him or his wife, it really does something to me: not only because you are greatly affected by this emotional loss, but because when one is exposed by a little slice of life, even if presented in a photo, you make a sort of little connection. And to look at his joyous face and know that he is no longer... that really hurts my heart. I'm so sorry Louise...
@salza@cruiser@kerosene Truly, thank you, each of you, for the comments. Those lives touched so many, I even heard just this morning from my friend in Australia, letting me know she'd heard and wanted to let me know. @kerosene Carolyn, it's so true that once we see a photo, we've made a connection. We often will wick the emotional loss our friends are feeling. Thank you all for allowing me to let you know and, for every mind that thinks of him, he'll not be fully lost. I'm touched that you came by and took some time. ♥
Oh dear, I'm welling up, such sad news and what a horrible way to die in an accident like that. Caroline says it, you make a connection, even though we've never met. Thoughts are with you and his family.
@overalvandaan Thank you Saxa... It may seem cliche, but he truly was Larger than Life. I'm happy that back before Christmas I was able to share this delightful man with so many friends here! Thank you for thinking of him and his sweet wife.
Oh, Louise, how sad. We are so sorry for the family and friends of this couple.. They sound like they were real pillars of the community. It sounds like you have lost two dear friends...... and then to also learn about the death of your daughter's friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all...... So glad you have these photos to remember this couple by.
I did and also mention the presents he forgotten to give last year.
