We'd passed a beautiful Anglican graveyard as we'd arrived in St John's, but each day, as we went out sightseeing, we couldn't find it again. In our final hours in town, I asked to look one last time, and there it was, as beautiful as I'd recalled it to be! Pam and Ken waited patiently for me, and I loved the photos I gathered...here's one for my memory book, and a thank you to Ken for patiently seeking it out for me!
Ken and I sat and ate cinnamon rolls while waiting! Lol! it was wonderful to watch you ducking between all the gravestones! I was so pleased for you that we found the cemetery again! Lovely image - cemeteries are so different these days - no big statues like this! Fav!
this is like the cemeteries we have in the olden days in the old country. we used to live right next to one and i still remember playing on top of the tombs in the afternoon. i was the only child who could play there even as darkness falls. until i saw a snake and my mother used to tell the story of how i could jump over those tombs and scale the steps to the house! :-D this brings back memories.
@casablanca I don't think of it as morbid at all! I look upon a graveyard as "a town" (with quiet people, all with stories to tell!) The story "Our Town" (by Thornton Wilder) has been a favourite for years, and I love seeing it performed as a play! There's so much to be learned about a person or an entire family in a graveyard. I love photographing old stones! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this with me!
@littleconnie They're nearly a decoration of yesteryear, I'm afraid, but I believe every cemetery should still have at least one! Thanks for the comment, Connie!
Old cementaries are so beautiful. Great shot of this one.
