There was so much to photograph over the course of each day on Catalina, to post any one photo means I'm leaving something wonderful out of my day's photo-journal! I was clueless about how much there was to see, do and learn in this little town of 4000...the only town on the island. The Indian inhabitants date back 7000 years and the Hollywood stars made this town a destination...John Wayne, Charlie Chaplin, Al Jolson, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable,Paulette Goddard,to name a few, and every Big Band of note performed in the Casino Ballroom. (The "Casino" had no gambling, but had an amazingly beautiful theater and above it, a dance floor.)
Our 86-y-o neighbor, a musician, dropped by before we left, and was telling us he had performed in a band at the casino. He said the acoustics were some of the best around. (The Casino sits around the bay on my right, out of sight in this photo)
My exif info seems to be missing, but I left everyone as we were finishing breakfast just after 9 and went out on the pier to take pictures. I'm just now noticing how incredibly tall those palm trees are...many are there on the waterfront!
Oh, Louise! How fun to see you and to see Catalina! We used to sail over there in another lifetime. It has been so long that I didn't even recognize it! I love that you reminded me of those good times! (I am going to try to begin here again! Let's see how I do!)
@stownsend You'd always be welcome in MY neighborhood! Like you, it was long ago that I was on Catalina, and I was afraid there'd be nothing to do... Let me tell you...things have changed significantly, and it's still only the winter season!
