Ken came in to tell me one baby had flown but the other was on a branch above the nest and Mama was chirping encouragement from above. I grabbed a camera and hoped for the best as this moment could be gone quickly. I got it! If they stay around the yard, we'll recognize those two as the adults no longer have "fluffy-topped slippers"! That must have added additional comfort to the nest-bedding!
I also bought a magazine about hummingbirds, and it was so interesting to read that the female uses spider webs in her nest building. While I knew that already, more interesting was that the webs have the capability of stretching as the babies grow! Mother Nature never ceases to fascinate!
Adore his fluffy boots :) It's so wonderful you have been able to document their progress - and share with us! Specially for this Aussie who doesn't have hummingbirds, but i truly love them :) Thanks & fav
@jesika2@seattlite@snowy@pamknowler@gilbertwood@Dawn@louannwarren@maggiemae@tunia@golftragic@danette@gardenfolk@taffy@elkereturns@haskar@filsie65 For all your kind words and sharing this little tale of baby hummingbirds, thank you immensely! I'm so glad they took flight before we left for the summer as, like you, I was eager to witness the end of the nesting story! We saw them off, gathered our own suitcases, and left for the east coast to visit our other pair of grandkids and the family. As time with the little ones takes center stage in our lives, my computer time is still sparse. I work on the Costa Rica pictures and amass still more pictures of the kids, so I'll post as possible, and hope you'll understand a group note of appreciation! This community is the best! Thank You!
