As we left to get haircuts today, this was the view when we got on the freeway not far from our home. (We could easily see the smoke from there, but this was the most wide-open view) California is in a very bad way with the terrible fires again this year! We have fires now burning in the Southern California mountains to add to the 17 fires (that I last heard about) burning in Northern California. Last summer the fire on the central coast became California's biggest ever, only to be surpassed again this year up north.
People who know we live here ask what's happening and are we close... This is as much as I can answer, but we don't live close to the mountains.
I'm posting a second photo taken from the plane as we headed to Canada back in late June. It's a perfect view to the canyon and mountains that are now burning. While this is a heartbreaking story on so many levels, I'm sharing it because people are interesting in seeing what's happening and I'm able to update.
There are so many wildfires globally this year. Weather has been very hot and dry in so many countries. We have had several major moorland fires but California seems to have had the worst it's ever had this year. Kindest thoughts with the whole state.
I didn't know about the fires in Southern California Louise. Your emergency services personnel must be getting very stretched. Fingers and toes crossed for rain.
The Holy Fire was started by arson...how awful! The fires have been devastating this year again but glad we are not in its path. We have had poor air and can smell smoke off and on. I feel so bad for the evacuees, both human and animal, the loss of homes and the wildlife running in fear.
