Another "Mumsie"... by Weezilou

Another "Mumsie"...

We have been awaiting this day when we'd see a blue jay in the yard again! In past years they've been plentiful, but very skittish and I could never get a good photo. Today I was surprised to see two together for a long while, photographing both. When I looked at the photos, I could see the corner of the mouth on the one, clearly evident that it was in it's final baby stage. Deduction...this is Mom... Welcome Back, Missy! ... and "Baby Blue", too!
Great catch and excellent DOF. I love blue jays but can never get them to stop by or sit still.

@cimes1 Ditto...until this morning! I have better close-ups of the baby, but the setting was more cluttered...

I am so used to see the darker color blue, but this powder blue jay is beautiful! We used to feed them grape jelly and they would hang out and enjoy the treat which let us photograph them. You got a nice shot here!

Agree with Constance, nice shot!

@seattle You just got to LOVE 365! Via this site, I found out that raccoons love marshmallows...who knew? And now grape jelly goes on the list! I'm into pampering the gems that come for a visit! (I have, though, discovered that starlings are tenacious and invasive and act like they're starving to death! I put out a fist full of crushed peanuts and they're gone in minutes...honest truth! I spotted a chipmunk in the yard, so I've also been putting out a little bowl for him...and in come the starlings! I put that bowl 5" in under a low shelf, and darned if they didn't go in after that and tip it as well! Can't be "angry...it's all just too interesting! But what does it say about me, trying to match wits with a bird brain?!

She is beautiful!!! Well done for spoiling the birds that visit you!

I love the shot and agree with you about what we learn on 365

Did you get so close to the bird.? how lovely of them. Mine always fly o way. Beautiful capture of this beautiful bird.

@pyrrhula Yes, I zoomed for this one, but this is the first year they have not flown off. We've been sitting on the back deck with a glass of wine, and I can't believe how many nice photos I'm getting of them...we've counted three, but now that they know we're here, there may be more, soon!

Wonderful capture! I need to try your technique of sitting with a glass of wine. The blue jays and cardinals are always off in a flash. Love your comment about matching wits with a bird brain!

@lynnz Realized during all that "relaxation" we have a couple coming at 7:30 for a drink before dinner...rush in...freshen up, check email and get a laugh out of your comment... Like you, I love the flow of many comments after a fun caption! Good luck with your camera and a glass of red!

How nice of him to peek around the corner for you

Nice capture! We get some great ones here in the country but I had to take down my feeder because I had a bear on my deck!!

Well captured Louise, s/he's very cute.

Great catch and detail.

@linah From the pictures of yours that I looked through, I had you figured in Rockport...but *Bears*! Wow! Guess you're not too close to town! (Just ONE picture would be fun, but then I'd like them to go home!)

@Weezilou Ken bought some grape jelly today...I laced with with crushed peanuts, but no one touched it (yet)... I set it out where I know we have a chipmunk... SOMEONE will certainly eat it! (I had him get me a fresh jar of peanut butter...sandwiches, if all else fails!)

@Weezilou I am in "cottage country" - inland from Bridgewater, towards Keji park.
