Celebrated a friend's birthday with lunch in town and walking home, I loved the perspective of this colourful string of buildings. The back story is that the first three were purchased by one couple, a very wealthy German and his wife who was originally from Lunenburg. It seems price was no object as they not only painted these buildings (much to the horror of some locals at that time!) but had the overhead power lines run underground and they put up street lamps. Personally, I loved this colourful splash, and in time this street has become almost-iconic Lunenburg.
They put up a street sign renaming this "UNESCO Fresco"... I think they got that right!
Incredible color! Love, Love this! I love the history of Lunenburg. Ah, and do you eat the Lunenburg German sausage, Louise? We love it and wish we could somehow get some. The "burgers" at the Knot Pub are fantastic. Darn, I am missing NS!
This has to be Lunenburg. I know it before I even saw your name. Love that little town. Great POV and, yes, love that color -- or as my Canadian family insists -- "colour"!
A great shot of a very colorful street.
Funny coincident. I just read on the local news : An artist did paint his house orange, out of protest. The city and bank get him to court and now he have it to chance it to it`s original withe color.
@pyrrhula As an artist myself, I'm quite taken with the colours as I think they paired them well. But one orange house, painted in protest, obviously ired the neighbors in white houses! When I was young, I remember my mother commenting on a house that was out of place in a neighborhood. She said, "They really must hate their neighbors!" Who's to say! Lunenburg certainly has a lot of bright colors...these just happen to be new ones on the palette!
