When it was clear we had missed the sound of saws and hammers (as we'd had all summer in Lunenburg), we rustled up some new projects back home in California!
...Upon our arrival home, we found a large water stain on the bedroom ceiling.
...Upon inspection, the rooftop hole was caused by (dare I say...) a rat who found easy entrance to the attic by climbing along the limb of a fruit-laden branch now resting on the roof!
...We had the exterminator to the house...he set traps & returns tomorrow to see the repair work done and to clarify we won't have to deal with that rat again (whew!)
...The clothes dryer was on the fritz... Repairman coming Thursday...
...The day our kids arrived back from Pennsylvania, the stove top stopped working (after 20+ years)...
SO...since we had to replace the cook top & we needed the bedroom ceiling repaired, as long as we had the builder & workmen on site, it seemed a good time to update the poor kitchen lighting as well!
We left for the afternoon, picked out a new cook top and came home to a kitchen with no lights and wires dangling from the ceiling (to be completed tomorrow). They seem to have done a speedy and excellent job!
There's more yet to do, but I'll save that for photo updates and a story to be continued ...
This brings two sayings to mind..."When it rains, it pours" and "One thing leads to another...and another". Good luck with all of your projects, Louise!
Rats are cleaver little creatures. We had that problem a number of years ago and it was horrible! We live near a preserve and the exterminator tells me they are all over. I'm okay as long as they don't get in the house! You sure are getting a lot of things taken care of.
Oh geez !! you did not need this at this time, or at any time actually. Keep your energy for that knee of yours. Good luck for those rats don't come back. Ask the exterminator if moth balls would keep them away. Just a suggestion. Take care.
@jocee On the bright side, it's better it's all happened at the same time so we can get right to it and it will be freshly completed to enjoy for awhile. The personal joke is that, in Lunenburg, we had "a minor problem" in the fall of 2013, and one thing leading to another, we have had a remodel going on right into the present! Fortunately the people we're working with are all very nice & competent, so it's not been a drag. AND...as for the mothballs, I'll ask when the guy comes out to check today. Seems a terrific idea on many levels!
@teiko We've been very fortunate to have found some very nice and competent people to deal with out situations (lunenburg and here). The end results are so nice, it's worth the down time...
oh Weezi! :) You guys can't seem to get a break from the (downside) joys of being homeowners. Sorry you're in the midst of turmoil again but, as you pointed out, it will be worth it!
And work always will remains . Finish with one the next is calling . Not nice to be back and find this. But see it the good way, glad you don`t live in a big castle
Ugh rats! Somehow that seems a lot worse than cute little squirrels, although I think they can do just as much damage. At least you will have some fun new toys to play with. Can't wait to see your updates.
