Avila Adobe: La Oficina (The Office)

This is the room where business affairs of the vineyard and ranch were transacted. An original ledger lies open on the desk. (I took a close up of the beautiful handwriting of the day.) " The master of the house also kept personal belongings, saddles and weapons here, along with a ready supply of hides which served as early California dollars."

The original floor would have been dirt, and still, depicted in the home, the doors are slatted wood through which the sun shines. As generally California weather is good, I suppose that served as air flow, but I'm only guessing!

Documenting 365 postings in those days was much more laborious than it is now.

People pay big money today to make their home look like this. Such a great time and in such a fab place. Love this.

@pamknowler I love that you see this as a Western Movie set! See what Lou Ann said... in the southwest...Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, people would most decidedly decorate with some of these objects!
