The Evening Floor Show Entertained Our Dinner Guests ...
When friends joined us for dinner and a paired birthday for the two husbands (we keep celebrating Ken's "a bit" early over and over!) we were delighted when the special guest arrived! He was the biggest raccoon any of us had ever seen and guessed him to be 35-40#! Ashley was here with the boys, so she brought Ashton down to see him! Though we were all sitting at the table nearby, he'd come for the food and wasn't bothered at all by our presence. When he'd eaten his fill, he ambled away, and I was delighted to have gotten lots of photos!
Wow! What a beauty! He really is gorgeous and so polite to stay and enjoy Kens celebrations! Huge fav! I am keeping my fingers crossed we get some visitors in Lunenburg! So excited! Fav again if I could! You are up late?
I notice this is not Posh's lovely china serving piece, I mean after all! I trust the door to the pet warehouse stays securely fastened as this fellow would have a field day in there! There's a story here, "Ken's birthday bandit stole the show, in the light of the purple pool!" Fun times! Happy birthday, Ken! Fav!
I hate to be a wet blanket, but do stress to the kids to treat raccoons with respect since, at least on the East Coast, a raccoon that is unafraid of humans if often rabid.
Oh, my goodness! How wonderful to have this backyard visitor! I rarely see raccoons around here...it would be so exciting to have one walk up to the back patio like this. :-)
@gaylewood It always is! Both here and in NS they find their way to the food I've set out for the cats! @allie912 You're absolutely correct to to let kids know that "wild" animals will sometimes do unexpected things...use caution... and everyone should know to recognize the signs of a rabid animal. Every year I'm warned about the raccoons that come around, but none has approached me in a too-familiar fashion. I also spoke to the vet and was told that rabies were not currently a problem in our (NS) region where we see the most of them. I do stay alert to danger signs!
