The Musician by Weezilou

The Musician

Last fall when the young musicians were staying with us, I was pleasantly surprised that they welcomed me photographing them with their instruments. I posted one that went to the Top Twenty that week, but personally, I liked this even more.

Adam plays the Sackbutt (what he called, "an instrument with an unfortunate name"). (It's the earliest form of trombone) He and his friends were in Lunenburg to study Renaissance music which concluded with a wonderful evening concert.

OK, I'm homesick for Lunenburg again...

Such a,strange name for the instrument! Great memories for you Louise of your lovely musical house guests! You will soon be back in Lunenburg!

@pamknowler The sackbut(t) is the earliest form of trombone. I should have mentioned that, so added it! Thanks!

So wonderful for a young person to enjoy something other than computers. The sepia/gold look of this photo is wonderful.

The processing fits perfectly with the Sackbutt, a great image.

This is excellent. Perfect framing formed by the doorway. Wonderful lines with the door frame, legs, and sackbutt (really?). And the sepia tone adds wonderful focus to the composition. Well done, Louise!

@cruiser Thanks for that note, Chris! Yes, when the guys left, I gave them all the photos I had taken of them. I will drop Adam a note and let him know I used this one here. I'd done several renderings of this, and with some time to pass before looking at them again, this became the one that best spoke to me of a long-ago era.
