Goin' Coconuts! by Weezilou

Goin' Coconuts!

Before today, I'd never seen the likes of this! We were driving past a golf green and it was "littered" with hundreds of coconuts! Ken turned around for "a photo moment" and we must have been there for at least a half hour! A ground's keeper asked if we'd like him to take a photo for us, but I was more interested in what was in front of me! Ken ended up back in the car before I was through, but I went to speak with him & two other men who were picking up and hurling coconuts (they're HEAVY!) into a truck. (I'd already seen them drive off with one load). He told me a single tree can drop up tp 250 coconuts, and they have 800 trees on the grounds! He added the obvious..."it keeps us busy!" I asked if I might take a couple, and he told me I could have all I want! I told him I thought they might be selling them. He said that "at most" they sell a truckload for $50. ...hmmm...I forgot to ask what someone does with "a truckload"...

They could sell them to us New Englanders so we can pretend we actually live in a tropical climate... ;)

That is a lot of coconuts, and pretty cheap too. They look quite green so I assume they set around awhile to ripen?

@steveh I was of "the dozen theory", too, Steve, and I lived in Honolulu as a child...I had no idea! That's what we love about travel...you always learn new things! As for those coconuts I brought home, we're about "one hatchet and one hammer" shy of capability to break them open! But I did use one in a still life with fruit out on the lani!
