It's a bit of an odd pairing that this image should bring her to mind, living in rural Missouri all her life as she did, nowhere near an ocean. This stop along the river is Snyder's Shipyard where building and repairs are almost always underway. I was first struck by the beautiful rust colour, and it wasn't until I stepped closer, I could see it was aged wood, mottled by its constant submersion in salt water. I have another image that shows the scale of the boat and the size of this keel, but I most wanted to cherish the beautiful wood. Mom would have loved it!
@kerristephens Thanks, Kerri! Looking at this, it's pretty enough that I'd happily hang a large rectangle of that wood in my home, just to enjoy looking at the tones and textures!
