While I could have cropped this closer for more detail, I loved this house in the Manoa Valley, and it stands there today, looking identical in every detail...not a thing in this photo has changed! I'm on the left, and, in holding my pet guinea pig...that too, hasn't changed! Next to me is my best friend, Polly, with whom I stayed in touch until only a few years back. Her brother, John (with his dog, Pepper), and my brother, "Bobby" (as he was called then), next to them. George and Gladys lived two doors down and all of us together were a great team of playmates!
Good memories, and certainly life back then was kinder, gentler and freer.
Not that posting these photos was "an easy out" for the day, but is part of my compilation of what it is I love, and always loved, about Hawaii.
(If I only could figure out how to share the music...)
@danette@kerristephens Thank you both! Danette, while many of my photos aren't in bad shape, I scanned them at a very high resolution (800 dpi), making them easier to fix if necessary, and I just put this and the one of my grandmother through Photo Effects and did the tiniest but of sharpening...Really brought out the features of my friends and me. You might be pleasantly surprised at what you can accomplish these days!
@danette I use an Epson scanner & Ken uses a HP Printer/scanner...both, in the set up, give you a choice of resolution settings. If 240-300 dpi is a typical digital photo out of a camera, I figure 800 is a good choice for super good clarity to help override an older, possibly blurred image. (Ken says all scanners nowadays have the capability of selecting the resolution.) Good luck!
@jamibann Your comment makes me realize I can't remember what I called the guinea pig...and yet I remember the neighbour's dog's name! (I remember the names of the parakeets we had that were inside...) Poor nameless guinea pig :(
Such a great shot of you and your friends. Such memories..... And the house hasn't changed.... but you "kids" have. Great to see you as a little gal, Louise. And the guinea pig. I had one when I was about that age too. Such a cutie! My mother was holding him on her lap one time while I was changing his cage. The fabric her dress was made of had lots of different fruits ;pictured on it. Tommy thought they were real and "ate" some cherries on a stem..... and made a hole in her dress. Mom was not a happy camper.......
What a beautiful treasure! Old photos from our childhood are so precious as there weren't many either! So wonderful you remember everyone and the animals -except your own poor guinea pig :) Never mind :)
Beautiful, a photo full of memories! Reminds me that photography is not just about making beautiful images but about recording wonderful moments and memories:)
@chard Don't laugh...it could have been a distinct possibility... My parakeet's name at that time was "Sweetie Pie Cupcake" ... (Almost makes your teeth hurt, doesn't it?!)
